Alvarez can walk and still be a massive star; with Ward moving on, and Billy Joe Saunders not even considering the fight for what they've already offered, what is Golovkin's next fight?

Mayweather gave Pacquiao 40%, because that was the cost of getting Top Rank to the table for a fight that Mayweather was seemingly desperate to get done. You compare the business that both guys were doing at the time, and, on a purely 'what you bring to the table' basis, Floyd likely would've commanded anywhere from 70-30 Mayweather to 65-35 Mayweather; Floyd gave a little to appease Bob Arum (and committed to emasculating him from the entire promotional process for the fight, as his receipt for giving up some money).

Golovkin walks away from 80-20 Canelo (guessing at the Alvarez-Khan buyrate and counting the German TV, you're likely talking about $8m-$10m to Golovkin's camp), and there's not a fight for him where he makes $4m.

Very good point. They had to grease Bob's palm with silver somehow.

And Pac did have other options.

    True ^^

But the point I am trying to make is that Golovkin would likely be Canelo's biggest fight, and his biggest payday..... would that be correct?

That fight would be huge..... they will make that money TOGETHER, and I'm not sure if Canelo could do those numbers with anyone else right now.

I'm not arguing, you are probably right..... but if that fight fell over because Canelo wanted 80%, I would be just as disappointed in him as I would be in Golovkin if he refuses to budge on the weight after talking all that 154 smack.

If that eventuated, then Canelo could have made the fight, but CHOSE not to..... just like if Golovkin refuses to budge, then he could have made the fight, but CHOSE not to.

It both cases it would look like those guys preferred to take the easy way out, and made weak excuses not to fight.

Neither the money nor the weight should be a fight-killer.

      • Ugh, anything to duck GGG

Who else Cinnamon, Hagler? Hearns? You gonna call James Toney back to middleweight?

Or are you gonna start raiding the 140 division?

You gonna call Broner out? Provodnikov? Bud Crawford?

I don't think so; Alvarez vs Mayweather2/Cotto2/Pacquiao/Marquez are all bigger fights for Alvarez than a Golovkin fight. Heck, if HBO got the machine going, Alvarez-Rosado (PR vs Mexico) for Mexican Independence Day weekend would be a bigger fight.

Gennday Golovkin did 100k-150k for his PPV against David Lemieux, spooking HBO to such a degree that they immediately deaded any idea of continuing the PPV path. K2 had so little confidence in Golovkin's drawing ability that they balked at staging the full building for a set-up that they'd already sold out.

People drastically overestimate the economic value that Golovkin brings to any matchup, and Alvarez (having had a hand in controlling the promotion of his own fights for a while) isn't going to make a bad deal for himself, regardless of what anyone here thinks.

OK, well..... you're probably right then.

But if Khan is worth $13mil, then surely Golovkin is worth $8-10mil?

The weight/money should not kill that fight..... especially not the weight.

I think that Golovkin is being a b1tch about the weight..... especially after talking all that smack about 154, and the fact that they considered catchweights for Mayweather/Cotto/Brook/Rosado..... so I am not making excuses for him.

But if Golovkin did come to the table and accept a reasonable catchweight, I would hate to hear that Canelo balked on the money. Canelo is not going to get everything his own way, and nor should he.

No large contingent is traveling from Kazakhstan (or Germany for that matter) to watch Golovkin fight from a $1000 seat Las Vegas, and I doubt that the TV money in Kazhakstan (or Germany for that mattere) is going to be anywhere near what BoxNation was willing to shell out to air a live fight at 2am.

As an opponent, i doubt that Golovkin is even worth $5m-$6m, tbh.

Simply break up the pie; K2 gets the UK/Europe TV rights, Canelo gets the Mexico TV rights, K2 get $3m off of whatever the Vegas site fee is (can partially swap for an allotment of tickets), K2 keeps Golovkin's sponsors, Canelo keeps his own sponsors, and K2, after the costs of the event are offset from the PPV, gets a 33% share on whatever upside there is on the PPV.

Just using Canelita fanboy logic. They act like Duckelito Alvarez would do 900k against Lemieux and GGG 97k against Cotto.

                    • I think if Canelo wanted a mayweather rematch, he'd tell Oscar to STFU Immediately.

Mayweather is the A-Side against everyone
