If anything, Lara's performance in front of a massive PPV audience hurt his chances for getting the GGG fight. I remember when Lara fought Rodriguez, his corner was urging him to take him out towards the end of the fight. Instead, he played it extremely safe and cruised to an easy UD. That about sums him up for me.
Again, fight numbers are about synergy. Lara does nothing on his own. But, put him in with someone people want to see challenged and he fits that role perfectly. It's not just about likes and dislikes, it's about the intrigue of the match himself. I have no doubt this would be a viable PPV for Genady, better than Lemieux because you get the people who root for Genady AND the ones who root against him. That's how WWE stayed viable in PPV for so long and how Mayweather make PPV history. The foil is as important as the hero.

As I told Pulp, I see both sides and the legitimacy of each argument. I don't actually think it's a good idea to fight Lara and if I were his manager I'd tell Genady to forget about Lara because the risk isn't worth the reward. What GGG's doing now works for him so it's not like he needs to start ******** on wild cards.

Synergy, intrigue lol. A shot Angulo outsold Lara vs Canelo, some synergy. It's pretty simple, viewers paid to see Canelo, saw his opponent run all night, said let's not ever see this guy on ppv again

It's crazy how much time and effort these idiots expend on a boxer they don't even like!

As you say, there must be something special about Golovkin for him to affect people as deeply as that.

Discredit Lara after the man just fought Dominic freaking Wade. Yeah, that makes sense.

There is neither a risk nor a reward in fighting Lara. Well, maybe a slight risk that he's able to get on his bike and stink out the place for some rounds before GGG puts him on the floor. Bottom line is that 99.9% of casuals wouldnt know Lara if he were standing in line next to them at McDonalds. The fight does nothing to broaden his appeal, or widen his fanbase. GGG already sells out arenas against unknowns, so Lara adds nothing to the revenue streams. And although a very small contingent might give him a shred of credit for beating Lara, most will just say he's picking on smaller fighters and blah blah blah.

Look, no reasonable person can really believe that GGG or K2 is afraid of a Lara fight. Its an absurd premise. There just isnt a compelling reason to make the fight, and thats why it wont get made............

So all Gennady has to do is keeping winning and racking up the victories while holding his ground. There's no rush for him to cash out by fighting Canelo on his terms and compromising his principles in the process, in order to secure a big fight money fight.

His time is coming. He'll become a star on his own and in his own right as long as he keeps winning like former Middleweight champion Marvin Hagler did before he got his big break.
That sums it up. Stay the course...

                I wouldn't mind a GGG/Lara fight...

After all, I felt Lara beat Canelo.

Lara, Danny Jacobs, any A level fighter at this point.

I would still also like Canelo to step to the plate.

His handlers know they have something special yet they are in-equipped to devise the appropriate path to solidify his greatness. From their point of view, they have all the leverage. All the excitement within the boxing world, most likely next best thing, but there's a sell by date.....

If they keep going down this same path fighting lesser and lesser guys then I'm afraid it will become the norm. Where even post-Canelo, if that actually happens, he will fight a big name and then fight 2 in-between bums as a filler.

He deserves the chance to fight Canelo before anything else and unify the 160lb division. But let's say he wins convincingly, I'd expect him to do these things and then pursue more competitive fights above 160. Wouldn't have a problem if he held the 160lb strap while doing so.
                  Middleweight
                  1. Fight Canelo
                  2. Fight Jacobs maybe Quillin too
                  3. Maybe by this time somebody else comes along and it's a very compelling matchup
                  4. Maybe by this time Spence or some other very accomplished Welter is in the position to call him out
                  Super middleweight/Light heavyweight
                  TBD....
