I think Pono's pretty much at his ceiling. Which ain't a bad ceiling & he is talented don't get it twisted. Kid is only 23 so has plenty of time to grow & get better, but this fight will be too soon for him. He's there to be hit & I don't think his craftiness garners him much success vs Spence.

I didn't see and can't find that fight so not sure how he looked but Solomon is a very good prospect in his own right though I understand he has had promotional issues, possibly inactive (assuming as I hadn't heard anything about him for some time) its a good scalp.

Ponomarev is tall, rangy with a very good jab and workrate. He has excellent footwork. Solid defensively. Just a good ass all round fighter.
He has a lot of variety with his right hand too that I think could prove very effective vs a southpaw like Spence who doesn't have much head movement.

Spence is still a work in progress himself, he's only had 20 pro fights.
He may win, he might be the real deal (I think its too early to say) but I don't think its going to be easy. I think Pono has all the tools to make Spence look real bad in there at times.

Most will probably side with Spence by a blowout, I don't see that. I think Pono is much better than Algieri and vastly more experienced vs southpaws too where Algieri has never looked good at all.
I really don't see anything easy about this kid, he has a style that could make just about anybody look real bad.
If Spence does blow through him, **** consider me sold.

**** that fight! It's time for the bright lights! Errol needs to go for Danny "Swift" Garcia...ASAP! It's time to get belts! Errol doesn't need to fight anyone else without a belt! Garcia, the Thurman vs. Porter winner, or Vargas, since you can't have Brook! **** Ponomarev!

People tend to call fighters bums when they have never heard of or seen them fight. Instead of actually doing some research on a fighter.

Almost lost to Solomon? He won it 8-2 and did so easily. I've no idea how he'll do versus Spence, but he beat Solomon comfortably, if not with much style.

I saw it via the TR.TV feed. I thought I saw someone post it in the video thread.

Idk if I'd call Solomon a very good prospect. His time was 4-5 years ago & he's just been treading water since then with problems & mostly bs fights. Still a good scalp doe cuz Solomon is a guy people in boxing know & he did have dat 0.

I think it'll largely depend on Pono's chin/punch resistance. Could be tricky, could be a blow out, could be somewhere in the middle which is where I'd prolly put my chips at this point. I just feel like Pono's defense isn't THAT great & obviously he's a slick guy offensively, but he's not got enough power to keep Spence honest so he's gonna need to keep Spence at bay for 36 minutes more than likely if he's to win.

Don't see Spence taking this route...Pono looked brilliant against Soloman who is a great fighter in his own right and has some of the fastest hands in the sport. Be a great fight if it happens.

It was a split decision. The other two judges had it close, 6-4 Pono, 6-4 Solomon. I didn't score the fight, but I thought it was closer than 8-2.
