If I was GGG's promoter, I wouldn't even entertain the idea of a Canelo fight, while all this weight class mess is still on the table.
I would just wait for Canelo to move up in weight after his body wont let him make that, whatever, weight class he's in, I don't know, what the hell is going on weight wise with Canelo, but, you know he's going to move up, you can tell by all the attention focused on it and the demands surrounding it.
stay fit, hold down your own weight class, and he'll come up... they always do.

To be fair, I think that Jacobs and Saunders both had their chance ?
I know that Saunders received an offer that was at least OK, and I'm pretty sure that Jacobs got approached as well. I might be wrong there, but I'm sure I recall reading something about it awhile back.
And about K2's negotiating tactics, they are cheap as fcuk, every Klitschko opponent has said the same thing, as well as some guys that Golovkin has approached/fought..... but Jacobs/Saunders totally refused to negotiate, just like Golovkin totally refusd to negotiate with Canelo.
I think they are both " avoiding " Golovkin, just like he " avoided " Ward/Lara, and it appears Canelo.
They are all playing the same risk/reward game, but Team Golovkin are much more blatant.

And YES, Canelo is obviously avoiding Golovkin at 160, as well.
No question.
He is obviously not a genuine middleweight, but he hasn't dumped the middleweight belt yet, so he is fair game.
Ward is one of the few men who is stepping up and handling his business.
The fact that Ward gets bashed by Pacquiao/Golovkin fans, is why I am the way I am regarding Golovkin.
I like him, I just refuse to support another manufactured fighter who just so happens to be popular.
Golovkin is the most " well-managed " fighter out of all the guys mentioned above.

If you show me this right now, I will completely shift the heat from GGG to Jacobs if this is the case.
My understanding is Jacobs said he wanted to fight BJS this summer. Not to say he wouldn't fight GGG if presented with the $$$ he's been asking for. Plus I saw a video the other day where Jacobs trainer says after the BJS fight, they'll target GGG.
But again, if you show me where Team GGG offered Jacobs a fight after the Quillin KO, I will STFU right here right now.

That's the main difference you're overlooking: former SFW champ Delahoya wanted to fight the much bigger Hopkins, so he demanded a reasonable CW. Lineal MW champ Canelo badly wants to avoid his mando, so unreasonable CW, unreasonable purse split, and now some day, down the line

September 19, 2004:
LAS VEGAS, Sept. 18 - It ended in a flash, an agonizing instant that Oscar De La Hoya will remember for the rest of his life.
Bernard Hopkins (45-2-1) crushed him with a paralyzing left hook to his liver, sending him to the mat with 1 minute 38 seconds left in the ninth round of their middleweight championship fight Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. De La Hoya crumpled as if in slow motion to his knees, his head resting on the mat, his breath suddenly gone, and he was counted out by the referee Kenny Bayless. For De La Hoya, it was the first time he had been knocked out in a celebrated 12-year pro career...
As Hopkins, 39, celebrated with a somersault and a leap onto the ropes, De La Hoya pounded the mat in frustration, knowing that he had lost the fight that he said would define his career...
The victory doubtless gave Hopkins the respect he believed the boxing establishment denied him despite 18 successful defenses of his middleweight titles...
The two men came into the fight looking trim and cut. De La Hoya weighed in at a trim 155, Hopkins a pound heavier, his lightest in 10 years. He said that he improved his speed, but kept his power.
Although De La Hoya was the challenger for Hopkins's three titles, De La Hoya held the leverage in negotiations for the bout. De La Hoya is guaranteed $25 million and Hopkins $9 million. If the pay-per-view purchases are above 1.5 million, De La Hoya could get $35 million, and Hopkins could nearly double his take, Arum said...

This is what champions do! They take titles, not wait until it's handed to them! GGG will suffer if he does not fight Canelo in 2016! There's not a lot out there for him. Canelo has all the time in the world!
Canelo in the other hand, is already heavier than Golovkin.
No comparison can be made, I'm sorry, nice try.Last edited by _Maxi; 04-18-2016, 09:59 PM.

I think I figured out what goes down with the WBC if this fight doesn't happen & the WBC holds to their word. They'll strip Canelo's belt & award it to GGG. And then they will have Canelo & Cotto(?) fight for GGG's interim or regular or whatever lesser WBC belt he has now. GGG will hold his new belt. And Canelo will have a new belt in September. I'm a problem solver!!! Anyone agree or wanna tell me why that couldn't happen?
Except that I'm sure the WBC won't just ignore the contract they signed with Golovkin and allow Canelo to carry on reigning as their 155 champion if he can't come to an agreement with GGG on the weight. They almost went into bankruptcy after sued being for breaking a contract with a fighter a few years back.
Making Canelo interim MW champion till he grows up might be a way out for them. Lol.

Worth remembering though that Floyd entered the ring around 150 when he fought at 154. Canelo enters the ring at 175+ after weighing in at 155.
I keep saying this: Cutting weight to fight an opponent who is bigger than you is a different proposition from doing the same thing for a smaller man.
