    NHL playoffs.
    MLB.
    UFC on FOX.
    Premier league soccer.

Not saying all of these ran head-to-head, but there was some major sports fatigue for viewers yesterday.

PBC picking Spence-Algieri as a main event and putting it on prime time NBC on such a busy day tells you they are probably not going to be working with NBC past the current time-buy deal.
Showtime/CBS has always looked, to me, as the natural home for PBC after the time-buy period is done with (included in that are the other affilaited channels in the 'National Amusements' family of channels).

Until then, "enjoy the ride" (PBC and NBC likely saw the type of TV competition that they'd be facing for the weekend and planned accordingly; even still, Spence-Algieri wasn't a bad fight, and the tripleheader actually was three competitive fights).

You best believe that the next time Spence fights, he'll have better ratings.
Yeah Just like all the fighters last year who fought on PBC on NBC? All those guys did better ratings the next time out...oh that's right they didnt. We have seen no evidence that these ratings carry over. Thurman did almost double these ratings last year his next fight he drew just 4k fans in his home state in a 20k arena and the show bombed in TV ratings with like 800k viewers. We have seen no carry over for these pbc fighters in the ratings but Spence who did worse then the others will be the first?

Why not? The Spence-Algieri tripleheader only paid out $1.1m in disclosed purses to the fighters, and PBC has seemingly quietly gone about selling most of their commercial spots (people here want to ignore the reality, but you see a lot less of those Corona "filler" commercials).

Thurman-Porter likely won't cover itself, but most of the cards for PBC can be financed with $2m(generally less, tbh) in payouts to fighters; with the ad spots selling through, and PBC doing a better job of staging fights in the right areas (bringing in money at the gate), the viability question becomes less and less of a question, imo.

          ^^^this

Which is why advertisers are only ever really concerned with what the 18-49 actually is.

AFHV is generally funny, isn't overly complicated, can be watched by simply having a TV (though the move to digital has me questioning that, tbf), and is a program that you can have everyone sit and watch without any worry about the content.

Fight fans lost focus over the years I guess because of Mayweather bragging about Purse and PPV Buys now everybody think that is what is most important in boxing.

People have become fans of fighters, not fans of boxing.

You can see it in the chat when contentious issues arise.

When debating issues a lot of posters do not make the decision that is best for boxing, in the long term..... they make the decision that is best for their guy, today.

These ratings don't lie the majority of fighters out there are in a dreamworld commanding huge salaries for their fights. How is Broner worth over 1 million a fight when well over 320 million American's have no idea who he is or what he does? Although these guys are very talented, right now there is no appetite for their services. That goes for DSG, Thurman, Porter, Wilder, Jacobs, the list can go on forever they all want to be paid the big bucks but they cannot draw flies if they were covered in ****. In any case I love all the extra boxing that has hit the airwaves over the past year but these fighter's will eventually price themselves right off TV and into deeper obscurity.
...Because Broner put 10k into the DC Armory to watch him fight Ashley Theophane (with the promotional effort having to add standing room seats) and, skills aside, is currently one of the most well-known fighters in the sport.

Bryce Harper is on the verge of possibly picking up a $400m/ten year contract, and I can say, with a good degree of confidence, that 320 million Americans have no idea who he is, either. lol

You must pay absolutely no attention to baseball. A sport which far more kids play and pay attention to compared to boxing.

Not surprised though, mostly everything you post is full of crap.

I support Boxing 100%! But I find myself even doing the same damn thing and showing favoritism towards certain boxers...Too many boxers now days are afraid to lose that 0

I like Canelo because outside of possibly ducking GGG he has the BEST resume by FAR! I mean not many people besides Manny and Floyd can say they fought 2 P4P Top #10 Ranked fighters and another 2 Top #20 Ranked P4P fighters. ALL within the last 3 years! For being only 25 years old that's DAMN impressive to me. Oscar did NOT want him to fight Lara and he told Oscar to STFU.

Let's be real if money wasn't a factor this time last year this is a under card fight or the headliner of a FS1 or Spike card. PBC also tried to save money by letting go of all the top on air talent from NBC broadcast team. Marv Albert, AL Michaels, Sugar Ray all gone.
Because Errol Spence Jr is supposed to the first of that next generation of stars, and headlining for his major step-up fight was likely looked at as a gauge to see where they were with Spence (in addition to showing him on arguably their biggest stage).

Errol Spence's last five fights have all been aired on a PBC broadcast, four of the five being aired on NBC/NBCSN; Spence's last fight, though on NBCSN, was the headline fight. I expect that to continue going forward.

Note: PBC didn't hire the NBC broadcast team; from every bit of information about trying to understand the underpinings of the PBC effort, the general impression is that PBC bought the TV time, with the network providing the on-air talent.

In what world would a person choose to pay for 7 different broadcast teams, lol?
