The casual are suckers for a cancer survivor fighting for the lord story.
Guerrero isn't a cancer survivor, his wife is. He benefited from fighting on each network's PBC premiere. CBS, NBC, FOX, and Spike (until the Broner fight) all had their highest rating in their first telecast.

I said story, that cancer survivior story and him standing by his wife story people love that lovely dovey shit, cancer isnt enough if it was jacobs be a star but he isnt.

Guerrero is a beast on the ratings, People see him fight and they know win lose or draw he bringing it consistently, what other fighter can you say that about. With guerrero the public knows he coming to make it a fight. Other fighters show up and only want a fight when they can win that if not they "pure boxers" lol you dont think the public take notes of that lol

You must pay absolutely no attention to baseball. A sport which far more kids play and pay attention to compared to boxing.

Not surprised though, mostly everything you post is full of crap.
directly quoted from your very own linked article:

"Since there’s no easy way to quantify fame among MLB players, I weighed an unscientific combination of jersey sales numbers, search traffic, Facebook likes, and informal surveys of casual fans to guess the five most famous players in baseball based on popularity and notoriety in the United States — understanding that some international stars are household names in their home countries, but without a great way to compare their level of fame to those of the guys below."

hanging your hat on the conjectures of a writer, whose opening gambit is that, in essence, he's winging it. lol.

I'm not a super baseball fan; I follow the Giants and, after no longer playing fantasy baseball a few years ago, that's about it. I'm not ignorant as to who Bryce Harper is (pretty sure I had the SI when they first put him on the cover).

My point is simply that Bryce Harper is on the verge of getting a $400m deal, and his profile (the actual number of people who actually know who the **** he is) isn't world's higher than Broner's.

This isn't a scientific check but Harper has triple the Twitter followers that Broner has, yet still a tenth of the Twitter followers that Floyd Mayweather has (and Floyd's number is "only" 6.81m, a figure that also includes international fans).

How you can object to Broner getting $4m per year (3-4 fights per year), yet not bat an eye with Harper possibly getting $40m per year is laughable.

I like Canelo because outside of possibly ducking GGG he has the BEST resume by FAR! I mean not many people besides Manny and Floyd can say they fought 2 P4P Top #10 Ranked fighters and another 2 Top #20 Ranked P4P fighters. ALL within the last 3 years! For being only 25 years old that's DAMN impressive to me. Oscar did NOT want him to fight Lara and he told Oscar to STFU.
I don't honestly think that fighters are too concerned with "losing that 0"; the hang-up is the reaction that comes after a defeat happens (namely how promoters have historically reacted when faced with a fighter who's lost).

Canelo Alvarez is that seemingly rare fighter, who fully understands where he is with his fans and is in the position to control his own destiny. As long as he doesn't quit in a fight, win or lose, Canelo's starpower is to the point that his fans are going to be with him (until he starts to look bad or not perform in fights). Beyond that, Canelo being his own promoter (he seems to have a deal with Golden Boy that isn't too much different than the type of deal that Floyd had with Golden Boy, though he's actually fond of Oscar; have no doubt that Canelo's Mexico TV deal has nothing to do with Golden Boy) and folks having interest in him, without any co-interest in his promoter, gives him the understanding to dictate terms.

Alvarez could choose to fight Lara, over the objections/reservations of everyone else, because he knew that he could call whatever shot he wanted. (You can bet that Oscar wasn't happy to fork over so much money to get the Cotto fight to Vegas, but Alvarez made it rather clear that heading to New York for the fight wasn't what he wanted to do)

The poster that I was responding to asked the question, which I proceeded to answer.

Not my problem that you simply ignore context and jump into conversations that you openly have no idea of what is being discussed.

You must not be bright enough to realize I was commenting about the popularity of baseball players over boxers. Not my fault.

                • PBC seems like it's coming around. Forget the ratings, the fights were good, and now the ratings will improve. PBC are now 1) having competitive fights, 2) matching with fighters outside the organization, & 3) in some cases (Wilder) doing VADA testing. Which are all the things that the PBC critics wanted from PBC. And things are already getting better.

                  • Isn't 1.4 mil good for a guy that has never headlined before, and is competing against a UFC event with guys that have fought on PPV? and there are also NBA games going on at the same time.

Yeah I'd say so. Then getting this type of attendance is good imo. I questioned why Spence would headline an NBC card on a Saturday night already, but Haymon knew what he was doing. This is a big push for him to become a star.
