Yes; I honestly forgot about him. At least when Ward sat out during his negotiations for a buy-out, he had already reached #2 lb 4 lb and was considered by some to be the best fighter in the world.

Garcia was a very good young fighter, but if memory serves me correct, I don't believe he was on any lb 4 lb lists, and was just starting to become known outside of hardcore boxing heads.
He had to have missed at least 4 fights he could've had under TR, which would've grossed well over 1 mil, and probably moch more for him. He'll be playing catch=up for at least a year or 2.
And that's not even considering that TR had seemingly been grooming him as a potential Pacquiao opponent. If he had kept winning and moved up a weight class, there was a legit chance he would've gotten a nice payday from that fight plus have the opportunity to become a cross-over star

Man, 2 years feels like a lifetime. I'm not a fan of Mikey's, but it's always nice to have a large pool of fighters to watch. I think Garcia should move to 140, face Granados and then the Cuenca/Troyanovsky winner. After that, go after Crawford/Postol.

Ward's name was kept buzzing by his promotional drama and the never-ending Ward/GGG talk. When Mikey was out, he barely received media coverage.

You are absolutely wrong about this. Arum would have not let Garcia fight until t he end of his contract and then leave (and that is based on the assumption that the contract had not already ended as Garcia says). He would have put Garcia in garbage fights that paid him peanuts until the contract was near the end. Then, he would have offered Garcia a major fight (with major money) with someone like Pacquaio or Crawsford, but only if Garcia agreed to a two-year extension of his contract. That is how Arum operates.

Then do the obvious and not accept the major money fight... It's what Chavez, Floyd and plenty of other fighters have done.

If the terms of the contract stated he had X amount of fights at X money, then as long as any promoter honoured that, I have no remorse for Garcia for signing a contract he ends up regretting.

And that's exactly what I meant by making a bad decision. Garcia would have benefitted from fighting those garbage fights for peanuts and still come out much better than what he did the past 2 years because he did not make any money the past 2 years. In those SAME 2 years, he could have fought those "garbage fights for peanuts" making at least a few hundred thousands and then leave when the contract ends (reject the extension he would have gotten offered)and sign with someone else. Instead, he chose the wrong path.

And if he didn't want to fight, then he should have tried to settle much earlier but instead chose to file a suit (that didn't even end up being proven in court), only to settle a few years later anyway.

There were much better ways to handle this situation, whether is was finish the contract or settle. Instead, he waited until near the end of his contract to settle...
