watching a good fighter ko no names is boring to some...thats why GGG and SOG numbers are similar...apples and oranges....its obvious no one cares who GGG fights if its not a name....97k ppv is garbage numbers

they always do better numbers with better competition

not bad considering the basketball games and how active hes been. if he can just stay active he will be a star imo. you can tell his style is going to be more fan friendly at light heavyweight as well

Very good question. It´s totally possible to have more than one good fighter to follow, sometimes even in the same division.. correct me if I´m wrong, I´m still learning.

Not sure why nationality matters at all

Not a Ward fan myself, but I find it to be something very positive that a fighter with his style can still draw 1mil viewers. It's good for boxing, as a whole, when that amount of people tune in.

Whether you like an individual fighter or not, I would say be happy for anyone that gets non-PPV audiences watching; always a chance for new fans of the sport to be born.

                ... me neither...
... but it's good to see that the U.S. fans support their top boxing fighters...

... and even if Ward fight Kovalev and loses, he will be the same highly (maybe the highest) skilled U.S. active boxer.

GGG is a massive star compared to ward yet Canelo isn't compared to GGG? Face it GGG is closer to Ward then he is Canelo and all the numbers prove this.
So what? Is that what boxing is all about nowadays ... who gets the most viewers on US TV?

And don't get me wrong – I'd rather watch a Ward fight than 10 Santa Cruz fights where he throws 100 meaningless punches. I find the latter to be incredibly boring (hence why I skipped through most of Santa Cruz-Mares), but I guess that's what always pulls the most viewers. Ward-Barrera was a great display of pure boxing that isn't appreciated by all, yet it still pulled 1mil. Impressive.

With that said, I still find Ward to be an unlikeable dork whom I hope gets Krushed by Killa Kov.

But HBO need to know that Kovalev/Ward is going to sell on PPV, otherwise the fight's not happening.
