Ward definitely needs one more. I don't think he would have beaten Kovalev last night.

Hunter trained ward since he was a kid. He's responsible for where he is. Gg just walked into abeles gym after winning a silver medal lol

This jus shows the dominance of Andre ward. To move up a division against a solid 175 Cuban contender an blow him out. Sanchez is just hating that his fighter got embarrassed by a smaller fighter after talking all that ****.

there were a few times when barrera stepped back when ward expected him to step forward and ward ended up swinging into fresh air. kovalev is pretty fleet-footed and could create a few openings that way

on the other hand, i thought ward looked crisp, especially in the first half, and i wouldn't be surprised to see him score a flash KD on kov

I, like most think Ward was a little rusty. His muscle memory isn't there yet. With that said, he's still very sharp, very fast and probably the most skilled active fighter in the world. The Kovalev fight is gonna be a huge task. But but it's a task for both fighters. 50/50 imo.

Think about this for a second. A rusty Ward who's timing was way off after a 9 month layoff and who was moving up to a new weight class just whipped an undefeated fighter who is coached by BWAA 2015 Trainer of the Year Abel Sanchez.

That is not bad. Not bad at all.

He looked pretty damn good all things considered. Did he kook vintage? No. But he was never in any trouble, rarely got hit clean. He had an issue with the jab though. But I think Barerra did a good job defending. You can tell he comes from a skilled school.

Exactly. People forget his boxing skills, plus how closely he follows John David Jackson's instructions.

I think Ward still has a shot against Kovalev but he will take some punishment. Kovalev is a lot more aggressive (than Barrera) and doesn't get discouraged easily. It will be an ugly win but I still like Ward.
