It's probably unfair to blame the ref or anybody involved. Blackwell was still throwing shots and seemed to be ok at times, even though he was taking punishment. The problem with refs if they have to find the exact balance of when to stop it because they're usually damned if they do and damned if they don't. Had the ref stopped it while Blackwell was still throwing and there was no serious injury, they would say it was stopped to early..."British stoppage" as some like to say. Hindsight is 20-20. At the time i do think Blackwell was showing enough to not be stopped at times. It was only stopped due the swollen eye anyway. I personally thought it should have been stopped, but i can see why it went on as long as it did.
I'm more surprised that Gary Lockett didn't stop it. I'm sure i've seen his fighters pulled out by him for much less punishment than Blackwell took. I think they put too much faith and trust in his toughness. I don't care how tough you are, there's only so much a human being can take.
