It's probably unfair to blame the ref or anybody involved. Blackwell was still throwing shots and seemed to be ok at times, even though he was taking punishment. The problem with refs if they have to find the exact balance of when to stop it because they're usually damned if they do and damned if they don't. Had the ref stopped it while Blackwell was still throwing and there was no serious injury, they would say it was stopped to early..."British stoppage" as some like to say. Hindsight is 20-20. At the time i do think Blackwell was showing enough to not be stopped at times. It was only stopped due the swollen eye anyway. I personally thought it should have been stopped, but i can see why it went on as long as it did.

I'm more surprised that Gary Lockett didn't stop it. I'm sure i've seen his fighters pulled out by him for much less punishment than Blackwell took. I think they put too much faith and trust in his toughness. I don't care how tough you are, there's only so much a human being can take.

Its always sad to see or hear of this happening, it just shows what you risk going into the ring weather it be yourself or watching someone on tv.

Boxing is the most dangerous sport of all, its the only sport were you can legally kill a man in front of a roaring crowd, boxing is not a hobby. Makes you think about how barbaric boxing can be sometimes, but its what we love, both spectators and fighters.

Hoping nick Blackwell a full and speedy recovery.
I personally wouldn't like to see him box again after this.

I have not watched the fight , just seen pictures. Did his eye swell up like that in the 10th? or before?

Come on, stop it. He checked on him after the fight and wished him well.

Saunders didn't even bother going to check on his friends health, preferring to instead remain on camera bumming himself up.

Exactly. Saunders behaved like a fcking child last night. His punditry was coloured by hatred for Eubank, refused to give him any credit whatsoever. Second time in a row he's predicted that Jr will suffer a brutal KO.

Hopefully Blackwell recovers. Wouldn't like to be Lockett today, he must know he should have pulled out his fighter after 7 or 8.
