I think the timeline has already been explained to me about Bute.

But I remember Ward breaking his hand in the Froch fight, and was on the shelf afterwards?

6 or so months after Froch-Ward for the Super Six crown, Bute got Cobra'ed.

As far as Bute being in the Super Six itself, seems to be a lot of "should have, could have" shit.

Would have loved to have seen the fight as I think Bute at the time posed an interesting style matchup.

I can see why he avoided that fight though. Stevenson's one of the very best Light Heavy's in the world. With all of Ward's inactivity it's smarter to fight someone of Barrera's caliber for your first 175 fight.

Yra that's pretty much how it happened. Ward did not duck Bute. He never had a chance to fight him. After the S6 he was sidings and months before he even fought again, Bute was KOed by Froch. I'm not sure wtf is up with the revisionist history here. But just because a fight doesn't happen when you want it to doesn't mean someone is ducking. Boxing fans are like little kids who learn a new bad word when it comes to ducking. Supposedly everyone does it.

I think People assume that the hand injury was the reason the fight never happened, but Ward never explicitly said that he would fight Bute after his injury had healed. There's no interview I can find where he said something along the lines of "I'll fight Bute after I'm healed". However, I've already shown proof from what Ward said in a radio interview weeks after the Froch fight in 2011, that he wouldn't fight Bute because Bute didn't, and I'm paraphrasing, 'Earn the right to fight him'. Which to me is a very weak argument considering Bute was the biggest attraction at 168 for several years, he headlined HBO events, pulled in huge Gate numbers at the Bell Centre, and he was a champion.

There's a video with the late Dan Goossen admitting as much. That they wouldn't fight Bute because Bute didn't prove himself because he skipped the Super 6.

That's just a weak argument on Ward's side.

He would have made huge money by taking that fight plus a belt. Instead he let Froch have all the glory.

People here making a lame failed attempt of a case of Ward ducking a fighter. No we are down to what other ppl had said for him.

You would have a point if Ward actually fought someone in that time between beating Froch and Froch beating Bute, but he didnt. Ward did say everything you said. He also said he wasn't planning on fighting for a whole and he was taking a break from boxing. I really don't think you guys understand what a duck is. Ward WAS sidelined with a broken hand. Ward wasn't going to be fighting any time soon. And while he didn't say he'd fight Bute after his injury healed. He did say he would revisit the fight when he came back from his vacation. Saying that Bute should fight Froch in the meantime is not ducking Bute when you have a broken hand that precludes you from fighting anyways.

Meh, after Bute got smashed on by Froch, he had a struggle fight against Grachev in the same year.

Ward fought and beat a drained Dawson, who had the balls to try to drop down to '68 and hold two lineal titles.

                Always liked Bute.

I think Ward would have beat him wide.

                My humble opinion.

I think Ward would have beat him as well. I just don't think he, or his team, had a lot of interest in fighting Bute.

                      He should have fought Bute.

Dirrell fight should have happened but it didn't. Don't blame him.

Stevenson doesn't ever want to fight anyone so it's more Stevenson ducking everyone else.

And Ward chose to fight Goosen so he can't really fight Degale when he was at the top of the division.
