It's hilarious boxing fans are hating on a talented fighter over ticket sales?

      Should've just combined the event.

Based on the current seating chart for the event (Oracle Arena has a maximum capacity of almost 22k), Andre Ward has already sold 7k-8k tickets for the fight, with two weekends (including the run up to fight week) to go.

Fox Theater has a maximum capacity of 2800.

        Don't be a ****ing idiot.

3 years ago fight fans had barely heard of GGG. How is it that he is now selling out places on both coast like MSG and the Forum in L.A.?
          wtf?

Ward-Kessler, at Oracle Arena, put over 10k people into the building. Ward-Dawson, at Oracle Arena, put over 10k people into the building. Ward-Smith, at Oracle Arena, put about 10k people into the build.

As of about 20 minutes ago, Ward-Barrera looks to have already sold over 7k tickets for the fight, with two weekends to go. I have no doubt that the total gets over 10k once fight night comes about.

Ward's not Floyd Mayweather or anything, but to act like he's only "drawing garbage crowds" is really disrespectful.

3 years of the HBO hype machine and Golovkin's not selling out venues; MSG only "sold out" within days of the fight, and The Forum still has over 20% of the seats available with a month to go (and the tickets already having been on sale for a month at this point).

          don't kid yourself

Secondly, 97K PPV buys isn't all that bad conaidering it was his first time headlining a PPV. When was the last time Ward headlined a PPV?

And those PPV numbers don't necessarily mean that GGG-Lemieux didn't make a profit.

Remember that a promotion with 50,000 buys can be much more profitable than one that comes close to a million buys. It just depends on how much the fighters are guaranteed.

You seem to be under the impression that GGG is promoting himself. Again, YDKSAB.
Golovkin and Lemieux, together, got paid $3.5m for that fight; you add in the money paid to the rest of the fighters, and you're looking at a $4m outlay in purses.

If you earnestly believe that K2 broke even on 97k PPV buys (with 50% of the PPV money going to the distributors/HBO), you're kidding yourself.

HBO lost millions on the Golovkin-Lemieux debacle. Ken Hershman was forced to step down and HBO's budget and boxing schedule still haven't recovered.

in the same exact post you say how great ward is because he did a reported 9k against paul smith in his hometown while bashing a kazakh guy who sold 20k at the famous madison square garden 10,000 miles away from his hometown.

i could pick apart your entire post. 3 years of hbo hype machine and ggg went from small crowds to 20k. pretty successful you would think but yet here you are saying otherwise. on the opposite side ward has had over 6 years since the kessler fight and he's doing worse numbers lol.

ggg has sold more than 12k for his next fight in a place he's not even from while ward has only sold 7k in his hometown for his next fight which is much sooner. how can you fail so much?

Golovkin could sell out MSG running from Ward.

Gotta go with Ward-barrera.... I think it's going to be a real interesting fight and a better matchup than what most people give it credit for..

Plus, have you ever been to a rap concert? 95% of the time. the sound system is **** and you can hear the beat but the words are all mangled and ruffled
