while I certainly agree that you touched on an integral part of the PBC long-term strategy, I sincerely doubt that HBO Boxing is going anywhere. The $30 million (or whatever amount they are allocating) is peanuts in the context of their overall budget. Same with Showtime. Even though Espinoza has pretty much ran the ratings into the ground, its budget is just crumbs when looking at parent CBS as a whole.

Bottom line is that IMO both HBO and Showtime will continue to buy content, and I dont expect either one to "go away".......

and a few years before that Morales and Barrera got over $2 million each to fight each other.

It's about the ratings, and boxing ratings haven't exactly been killing it.
It's sad when we look at 1million viewers as a success, when back in the day a replay of a Hopkins/Tarver fight would yield 2 million plus viewers.

Both HBO and Showtime have been overpaying fighters for years even though they haven't yielded the ratings that are needed to justify the purse.
This formula can only last so long, before it no longer works.

$1m for the fight. Honestly...maybe boxing needs this. Maybe it's time to adjust purses in line with today's market. It's why part of me is glad Mayweather is retiring, followed by Manny and Cotto. Their overinflated purses trickled down to lesser stars. With them out of the picture, maybe things come back to reality.

If Walters doesn't want it then Loma should move on with his career instead of waiting for his fatass. Loma should choose activity and take pay-cuts. You build your name by staying active and being in the public's eye not by fighting twice a year. There are still some good fights for Loma at 126 anyway. Let's see if Top Rank is willing to put Valdez up against Loma.
Arum was probably not serious about Showtime, but Showtime may have been a better option for Loma. HBO wants to keep investing in the type of fights they are currently making it seems.

Walters/Marriaga did 582K, Walters/Sosa did 373K. Loma had never headlined a fight. Why should dude get $1 million when he can't even get people to watch him fight?
