Mandingo connects Cotto may never recover
Huge risks Low reward. Cotto couldn't hurt the light heavyweight he recently fought so I don't envision a KO so the opportunity for getting caught is very real...lets face it, Kirkland's recent fight was from a long time on the shelf, and as such,
Cotto won't even be able to avail himself of that advantage as well. Less troubling options out there for him to opt in favor.

It's funny how people on here are talking schit about Cotto. I guess maybe read the article, and then maybe re-read it. The fight is not in play, and they haven't even started negotiations. This is probably Rocnation making some pbone calls. But no, some how there is a bunch of mentally handicapped people on here, who got Cotto wants to fight and is actively seeking out Kirkland, from this. If this were to happen, it would be lame at best. But I doubt this is the fight that gets made. Marquez, Provodnikov, Kirkland, have been mentioned, so far nothing has been remotely serious.

Maybe Cotto needs to face someone big, hittable, and vulnerable to refuel before going after a more significant challenge.
If you want a crowd pleasing fight, J-Rock would jump for the chance to fight Cotto. He wouldn't dance around like Lara or Trout, he'd find a place to **** and do alot better than Kirkland who probably shouldn't be fighting anymore.

Rumor is, Cotto's next fight is slated for HBO PPV, if this is accurate then James Kirkland is not really in play, and would explain why there was somewhat a push for Marquez. The question is, who is available that can be a PPV opponent?

don't underestimate mandingo, I actually like this fight better than marquez and provo, according to canelo kirk hits harder than anyone he has fought...
                    it should be entertaining...
