I don't mind this fight if it's not ppv. He's coming off a loss and wants a easy rebound fight ok. But hard to convince fans who just saw Canelo destroy Kirkland in a NON PPV fight to pay for this. At least Kirkland was riding a 4 year win streak with big wins over angulo and tapia before the canelo fight. If it's ppv rather see him fight marquez, vargas or one of the bigger names at 147/154.
I mean yeah it's a potentially exciting fight and I will watch but both Canelo and Cotto picked Kirkland cos he's still got some fan recognition. The reality of his '4 year win streak' was that he was laid off for 18 months before Canelo and had ballooned and that's even disregarding his 'win' against Molina which was farcical to anyone who watched it - hell, even Wolfe basically told Molina he was robbed. Now he'll be going into the Cotto fight with 3 fights in 4 and a half years and arguably 2 losses.
Can't really blame Cotto though, nor am I saying it's a walkthrough - should be fan friendly and bring in the $s - which is pretty much all Miguel needs to be doing, especially at this stage in his career.
I really hope the message gets through to Cotto's team that this is a garbage fight. Do not make this fight! It's a slap in the face to fans IMO. Keep it moving onto a more deserving and competent fighter please. And to think this may be a PPV due to the guarantees by RN? Hell no! I hope HBO shuts this down.
Quite amazing how he has landed two presumably good paydays back to back against two of the sports biggest names when he's been trash for years and rarely fights.
