At the moment as in the past few weeks? it's normal for a couple cancellations of bouts and frustrating but it will pass by and 2016 will liven up.

Ward-Kovalev and Canelo-GGG are great fights that can happen late 2016.

Then in 2017 we have a classic lower weight rivarly brewing in Inoue-Gonzalez and the HEAVYWEIGHT division is alive for the first time in over a decade. Joshua, Fury, Wilder, Ortiz mix and match will be great.

and we don't know who may burst onto the seen in 2018,19 etc. So how does the immediate future not look bright?

Everyone needs to chill. Boxing has ups and downs. That's nothing new. Right now we're entering the post Pacquiao-Mayweather phase, so there is a transition from the old stars to the new. We also are in a position where a lot of crappy fights are leading up to some big fights (Canelo vs Khan/GGG vs Wade leads to Canelo vs GGG, Ward vs Barrera leads to Ward vs Kovalev, etc). Plus the heavyweight division is heating up with Joshua, Wilder, Ortiz and Fury on a collision course. Don't worry so much. It was not even a year ago boxing had the biggest fight ever, so chill.
LOL holy **** you beat me too it, just saw this after posting

At this rate the UFC will stomp boxing in 5-10 years. UFC's PPV's are already killing boxing- As a boxing fan, this is not looking good. Did pac and Floyd have that much of an effect on fanhood?
How the hell are ufc ppvs killing boxing? Huh that's a lie and a half

I appreciate the civil reply. The schedule for the first half of the year has practically already been filled out and it looks terrible, even before the cancellations it seems like half of the fights are showcase fights. Tell me one fight that has already been scheduled that you are legitimately excited for? Lomachenko vs Walters is a great matchup but not really a great fight, and there is a possibility it won't happen.

Call me pessimistic but I highly doubt Canelo vs GGG takes place this year, Mayweather vs Pacquiao has set up a dangerous precedent and Canelo has basically turned himself into the new A-side queen and will probably try to delay the fight as much as ever.

The heavyweight division does seem like it's heating up I will you give you that.

As for the future maybe I am being close-minded, but I get this from the general attitude towards boxing in America. Maybe I should have been more specific, globally it might be different. Not a lot of promising American fighters on the rise either.

To add to this: OLYMPIC BOXING has massive potential since this is the first Olympics in a long time without headgear and with pro-style scoring. This will bring new stars from around the world. Olympic Boxing is going to get a ton of attention this summer because of these rule changes, so with all this attention creates new stars. These are the guys who will end up dominating the sport a few years down the road.

The business model is just getting in the way of potential fights. Too many belts, too many organizations, too many promoters, the odds all of these en****** align and come to a cohesive conclusion is not in our favor.

PBC was supposed to combat this, instead it made the same problems worse.

              -a disappointed fan

Unless what happens is you get some experienced pros in the qualifying process and into the Olympics, in which case they could eliminate some of the potential new stars.

As a fan who has followed boxing since '81, I have been losing interest in lot of the fights going on. There is nothing out there that truly catches attention. I was looking forward to Thurman-Porter, now its cancelled. I still got Canelo-Khan to look forward to, but after that its bone dry. The ones in charge can put there shows on network TV but those are all mismatches and rarely is there a compelling match up. IMO the last 5years have been easily the worst in boxing since ive religiously started following it.

I don't think boxing will die out but without any true stars and real household name boxing will just be a sport with a very small die hard following.

Right now in boxing there is not one boxer that you can say he is a true household name. Not one, and spare me the Pacquiao stuff, the dude is a has-been.

You're worried about losing two undercard fights???? BFD.

Let's be real. UFC's big 2015 PPV year was due to two fighters: Ronda and McGregor. That's it. Both got put to sleep. Let's see how those PPVs do now.
