There was more going around back then compared to now. Networks being stingy as **** right now so outside of the big PPVs which only a few fighters can pull off money is slim.

Plus who cares if an Al Haymon fighter gets $1m+ a fight if they only fight once or twice a year. Besides Broner and a couple others, most aren't that active.

That was back when the best fought the best, fight after fight, no soft touches. You had up and coming fighters like Paul Williams and Miguel Cotto challenging themselves against Sharmba Mitchell and Guanluca Branco.

LOL at this guy coming up with RJJ who was a huge star back then. He'll probably be getting $10 million in today's standards.

I was talking about Thurman, Garcia, Santa Cruz equivalents. Do you think a guy like Lara fighting Zaveck and Rodriguez would deserve $2 million back then? Or Garcia getting $700K for fighting Salsa, Santa Clown, $750K for fighting a sparring partner?

So today, HBO would pay Roy Jones $10 million to fight Del Valle?? Making **** up again. Attendance for that fight was 4,519 in the MSG Theatre.

          SMH @ you

You did not. You said the average of the cards I listed would be $250K because you're talking out of your ass as usual.

HBO led the way in overpaying P4P fighters to face bums back then. Since the budget keeps getting smaller, that practice has come back to haunt them.

And the PBC has picked up right where HBO left off I guess?

Good thread. We've had barren years before. But it does feel more pronounced and tangible now because of the network and promotional issues. A great fight being made seems almost like a miracle these days.

But I maintain, things will open up again. You seen that Arum clip with FightHype where he's asking Haymon to call him to make fights? Haymon himself is loosening his control freakery. Things will get better because the money is gonna dry up if it doesn't.

I will say this, though. There is no doubt in my mind Haymon royally ****ed up Showtime. He screwed up HBO too, but Showtime used to host so many amazing fights that the hardcore fans loved. The Super Six and a boatload of amazing/excellent fights between the smaller fighters (Marquez vs Vasquez trilogy, Donaire vs Darchinyan, the Bantamweight Tourney). The demise of Showtime has been very sad to see.

Now, fans will moan for 3 months leading up to the fight about the CW and all the info surrounding it. Makes the fight 10 times less enjoyable.

Every fight can't be a great one. Fans used to enjoy all levels of fights.. Now it seems some only can enjoy it when its on one network and the guy fighting is a star.
Chavez vs Whittaker wasn't a unification fight. Chavez moved up from SLW and the only title on the line was Whittaker's WBC WW.

So far as I know the only catchweight unification fight between 2 champs in the same division was BHop vs Oscar. And we all know that Oscar wasn't really a MW and BHop gave him the catchweight willingly.

So no, it didn't happen a number of times before the internet.

Expose the Lil morons here... there are PLENTY lol

Remember when HBO had a $120 million budget in 2000. Now they have led than $25 million for boxing.

                      Why is that?
