2016... the first year HBO Boxing will average less than 1 million viewers

With the Ortiz-Thompson card averaging less than 735k viewers for 2 hours, HBO boxing is on track to do the worst viewership it has ever done.

However, HBO'S subscriptions continue to go up.

The viewership of original series continues to grow.

Expect more cuts to HBOS boxing budget as they reallocate resources to better programming.

This would be very depressing if it actually happens. I may be annoyed at the BS HBO is putting on, but I don't want boxing ratings to drop.

I think if Canelo fights once on regular HBO (as they said) and they make some better fights, ike the proposed Loma/Walters fight or Crawford/or Broner, I think they will eclipse the 1 mil average for the year.

They're putting on ****ty fights, lower ratings is what's supposed to happen.

I had little to no interest in Crawford/Lundy and Ortiz/Thompson. I'm not excited about Golovkin/Wade, Pac/Bradley, or Alvarez/Khan. All crap, no drama.

Ward/Barrera is the most intriguing fight in the first half of the year and it has the high chance of being a very ugly & boring fight.

Absolutely ZERO chance Canelo fights on HBO again...

Loma/Walters wouldn't break 1 million viewers... no way

Boxing needs to hit rock bottom before it can get better. I'm kind of happy that the networks and promoters across the board are kind of suffering. It will put the fire under their azzes to get their act together and stop working towards diving the sport in fragments.

In the meantime I'll watch Tennis. A sport where the best actually take on the best in 1-1 competition. When I want to see violent hand to hand combat I'll tune into one of the many free and entertaining UFC cards.

Boxing can kick rocks for all I care at this point. Too many damn divas in the sport.

I thought the deal he signed was 2 ppv fights and 1 "on HBO" fight a year. I guess I am mistaken.

Yeah, I guess loma/walters has lost steam. I still think if you made loma/walters and Crawford/postol or broner on the same card it would crack 1 mil.

How can you get better without enough resources? The better fights and great cards can't be made for free.

Those 2 & 3 million viewership cards for PBC are gonna seem more magnified now that HBO & Showtime are getting smashed.

GGG and Kovalev will do 1 million. We'll see how Ward does in his return. He was pulling 1 million plus too before the layoff.

Drama queen. This fight was on the same night as a huge PPV event. I don't think it's indicative of general problems getting views.
