In the shape Margarito was in at 147? nah, he would've been mauled all over the ring late even if he managed to survive.......The fight was already close in the late rounds, he would've lost a decision . Cotto just thought he had enough power to punish Margarito on his way in, but he didn't(and there was no way he would accept that before the actual fight...Cotto learned it the hard way). The 154 version of Margrito was already finished because of Pacquiao and making 147 one too many times.

He was coming off the Floyd loss and was offered the canelo fight for more money turned it down to fight trout who was considered the lesser of the belt holders at the time. He took that fight because he thought it was an easy way to get his hands on a belt again. Sergio wasn't even a thought back in 2012. Martinez was just months removed from beating Chavez and nobody knew how bad the knee injury was not even sergio. Let's be honest he only fought him years later because he was injured required surgery and looked flawed right before surgery in the Murray fight.

Martinez and DiBella always wanted to fight Cotto. He was always an option. I don't think Cotto ever thought of Martinez of an option before because he always had better ones. In this situation I remember he was supposed to fight Canelo if he won.

Yeah basically I'm just saying Cotto fought a poor gameplan. Fought off the ropes way too much. He clinched and pushed Marg off in the rematch a lot more. Obviously Margarito was softened up by Pac. No dis*****g that. Just think as a fan I think of that more than whether or not Marg cheated.

His ****iness was at an all time high before that fight so not surprised he didn't respect Margarito's power or chin.

Of course Sergio wanted to fight cotto for years matter fact but cotto only wanted to finally fight Sergio when he was damaged goods so no chance he would of taken that fight in 2012. And he didn't have to wait till after trout to fight canelo. He chose that route and took less money to fight trout first because it was on paper the easier fight. Canelo and Floyd had all the other belts. He wanted to win another belt and then fight one of those guys after but it backfired by underestimating Trout. Reminds me of Chavez turning down the GGG fight to later instead fight Fonfara for less money and getting embarrassed.
