There have been tons of PBC fights that sold little to no tickets and they still go on with the show so why would this be any different? Plus when the news broke of the injury all the immediate leaked info was that they were trying to restructure this to a solo Showtime card and even Dibella said they were trying to keep the card why leak that info and go through all that if it was planned? If the injury was faked it only benefits one man and that's Thurman to either pull out the fight all together or get extra time to prepare for the fight.
Haymon supposedly is losing millions on PBC fights on Spike and BET and this is no surprise.
Even Broner on Spike seems to be a loser. Short Port is the one who loses out on the delay.

In particular I hate that Porter, who's obviously been frustrated with not fighting for 8mos, isn't likely to be able to take a fight, cuz this fight seems like it might only be pushed back to May/early June.

And the UFC comparison with injuries isn't really comparable to this or any injury postponement in boxing. In the UFC the card is the event & fans perception of L's on a fighters record is more forgiving. In boxing, the main event is the event & fan's perception of a L is more severe. I'd wish boxing would become more like the UFC, but the reality is they aren't right now & to perform in that sorta UFC manner shouldn't be the expected outcome by reasonable boxing fans.
Fans thoughts on an L is more severe only of a fighter doesn't fight anyone. There are plenty of fighters who had a number of losses, like de la hoya and duran that still had huge success bc those fighters took on all comers

Thus, my frustration in waiting on my big boxing matches continues...though at least in this case, it was because of an accident and not because of any kind of ducking.

Of course, idiots agree; Thurman's injuries somehow means that he's "ducking" Porter, someone he's been wanting to fight for a long time. I wonder if these are the same kind of idiots who also think Rafael Dos Anjos broke his foot as a way to "duck" Conor McGregor. *smh*

Damn I wanted to see Mares Vs Montiel even more than Thurman Vs Porter

Sure you get some credit for taking on more equal or superior fighters although its usually after you've already made a name for yourself & are a proven entity in the sport. Its impossible to deny that MMA fans are way more forgiving of a L regardless of the situation.

**** man some good to great MMA fighters got losses within a minute & are still talked about as good to great fighters meanwhile no one hardly talks about Michael Spinks cuz of him getting taken out in 91 seconds vs Tyson despite his resume outside of that fight.

The point is you downgrade but get Porter a decent opponent so you can still sell a main event fight and not scrap the entire show and lose money and hurt business relationships in the process. Fight makes less money but less is better then nothing. And I don't think for a minute the plug being pulled is because of Showtime they have aired much worse cards. Likely it's Mohegan Sun, CBS ect that didn't want to continue on.
Porter goes from being involved in a main event that would've likely paid out $3m to the main event fighters to being on a fight card that would possibly have $3m dedicated to the entire night of fights.

Just to keep things in perspective:

                    Porter-TBA (10 rounds)
                    RussellJr-Heiland (12 rounds)
                    Mares-Montiel (10 rounds)
                    Rodriguez-WilliamsJr (10 rounds)

Is Porter going to realistically take half the check that he was going to get for fighting Thurman?

Porter gets NOTHING now. I'm sure Porter would be fine getting half the check for a stay busy fight and then getting the Thurman fight afterwards rather then going a full year without fighting. And whether he likes it or not Haymon is calling the shots. Perfect case Broner's contract with Maidana had a immediate rematch clause which he said publicly he would enforce. Then all a sudden Floyd wanted to fight Maidana and Broner said too bad I got a contract you have to wait I'm fighting him first. Then Haymon had a "talk" with Broner and the rematch clause disappeared. These are Haymon in house fighters on a in house event and if he wants Porter to have an interim fight to keep the card alive he could of done that.
