I agree that with very high profile fights (like PPV's) its rare. That said, there should still be a suitable replacement for title fights just in case. Maybe without the politics there would be. You can't tell me there isn't a quality 147lber that would be ready in 3 weeks.

Hell a young Manny got the Ledbawa fight on like 2-3 weeks notice.

But they didn't with this one which is relevant because it happened at the same time for an event that was scheduled around the time of Porter vs Thurman. Not sure the circumstances of any other PPV events from UFC. My point is if UFC could find a replacement in less time why couldn't Haymon? Obviously it wouldn't be the same caliber of fighter but a lesser decent fighter for Porter and keeping the entire card moving along is much better then wasting money promoting an event and ruining relationships with the venue, networks, and advertisers, ect.

        Damn that sucks.

In particular I hate that Porter, who's obviously been frustrated with not fighting for 8mos, isn't likely to be able to take a fight, cuz this fight seems like it might only be pushed back to May/early June.

And the UFC comparison with injuries isn't really comparable to this or any injury postponement in boxing. In the UFC the card is the event & fans perception of L's on a fighters record is more forgiving. In boxing, the main event is the event & fan's perception of a L is more severe. I'd wish boxing would become more like the UFC, but the reality is they aren't right now & to perform in that sorta UFC manner shouldn't be the expected outcome by reasonable boxing fans.

Next Canelo ducks Golovkin and Ward insists on getting his other tune-up, which may or may not take place next year.

A day later they have a replacement in place so that the show can still go on. And I think UFC had a week less time(their event is March 5th) from when both guys pulled out. And according to reports Thurman was injured a week earlier. Plenty of time to get Porter another decent opponent to fight that night. This is now a mess with the other fights being scrapped and maybe ruining relationships with Mohegan Sun, CBS ect
The UFC is putting their early March fight on PPV; rather than title vs title, the UFC is now left selling a non-title fight, likely significantly hitting the upside on the show.

Getting Porter "another decent opponent" isn't the issue; Thurman vs Porter, two prime top-5 welterweights facing off, is a massive potential fight.

What could honestly replace that, from a spectacle perspective, at this point?

Brook-Porter II and Garcia-Porter, with that being about it. Neither matchups is realistically possible at this point.

Odd that they didn't just consolidate things into a tripleheader for Showtime (Russell title defense, Mares fight, and Rodriguez-WilliamsJr is a pretty solid night of fights); maybe the powers that be didn't view that as being enough of a show for 'Showtime Championship Boxing'.

That was a dope card. Would have been alright without even a main event.

It's no worse than what SHO has been putting on for the past two years.

Odds are that it wouldnt even matter if there was. The decision to cancel comes from Showtime, not Haymon.

I could care less about the undercard . At this point Porter should just stay active. It's weird with the 100+ fighters Haymon has he couldn't find a late replacement for him?
