You do understand that Kovalev and Golovkin are 2 different people, yeah?
Kovalev and Golovkin are both in the HBO orbit, which has been tentative (to put in nicely) to consider doing business with Haymon.

Andrzej Fonfara is backed by Haymon and Warriors Boxing, is emerging as a bankable draw in Chicago(and Polish-speaking communities in general), and has meaningful fights to look towards without Kovalev (vs Stevenson II being the biggest one standing out).

If you earnestly believe that Fonfara(a proud Polish fighter) is going to go to inner Russia, to take a short money fight against a Russian fighter, you're a ****ing idiot.

-HBO, there actions with Ward being what they are (protesting Ward's opponent slate in a manner that they haven't done with any other fighter, trying to have a fight that Ward didn't even get a check for count against his deal, etc), I doubt that HBO has any extra Ward dates laying around.

-Miguel Cotto, RocNation's only other marketable fighter at this point, has his own HBO date penciled in for June.

-Cotto's card gives RocNation the chance to showcase Andre Ward in NYC.

-The timing of things(based on what's been penciled in), allows for Ward(a guy who's likely not coming down a massive amount of weight to get to 175) to put in a 10-week camp for a June fight, followed by a 10 to 12-week camp for Kovalev[mixed in with some vacation time too]

Injuries/rough fights are always a possibility but, even with that risk, Ward's camp seem to have things all lined up as an extended Kovalev camp anyway (Barrera in March and Shabranskyy in June would do well the prepare for a straight punching, big, kinda slow LHW, a la Kovalev).

Lastly, the Ward injury is being overstated a touch, imo; Ward had a balky knee, chose the overly cautious route(deciding to not fight with a knee that was 80%), and had the knee situation cleared out with a couple weeks of rest.
I don't see why cotto should have to give up some money so ward can fight on his undercard. I like Ward but he isn't going to self one ticket in NY when Cotto is going t sell it out just by himself

            This is like B
            Nonito and Pacquiao

Wow! I never thought Ward would get in the ring with Kovalev. Now i can count down the days before i see Ward being humiliated.

I agree. Kov has improved so much delivering his punches accurately while controlling the distance that he wants to deliver them.

Ward is so slick in there and does what he wants to do, also he is mentally strong.

When they are both in the ring, THEN it's official. Ward is going to get injured again, that shoulder or the knee or maybe a pinkie finger this time.

I never even mentioned Fonfara, and I've no idea whether he would go to Russia or not. He wouldn't beat Kovalev if they fought though, wherever it happened.

If I HAD to bet my own money I would pick Ward by SD. Although I think there is a very real chance that Kovalev is just too much everything for him and busts him up badly. Ward may not be who he used to be, and fighting a bums row will not have him prepared for an absolute monster like Kovalev.
