Comments Thread For: Canelo is Proud of His Resume, Says Golovkin Fight Will Happen

Fair enough, his resume is certainly scattered with recognisable names and some true greats. I'm willing to conceded he may want to fight the best guys out there (if he doesn't always follow through)."I feel at 25 years old I have fought the best fighters of this era. I have always wanted to fight the best guys out there. I am content with what I have done and what I will continue to do with my career," Alvarez stated.
Now, on to the topic of GGG expressly:
This sounds pretty positive. I feel maybe Canelo doth protesteth too much, a little bit, but he says it'll happen soon, this is something we can hold him to. He said the fight has to happen, and that he wants it. He gives himself some wriggle room with "it needs some time to negotiate", which is kind of fair enough (but they have already had since December...)"That is a fight that will happen soon. That is a fight I still want. That is a fight that has to happen. That is a big fight that needs some time to negotiate but we will definitely do it."
But then, the ****ing reporter gives him a ****ing exit:
Seriously, what are you doing, dude? Why are you asking from a business perspective when the people who support you are the fans of boxing? A much better question here, in my opinion, would be to ask "what's the biggest contention in the negotiations" - not too much of a hard-ball, can come across as a genuine question, and it doesn't feed into this ****** idea of "marinating" a fight which everyone already knows is the biggest MW fight available. This just puts a big, steaming turd all over boxing fans who want these great fights to happen, because you're literally helping the promoters and agents delay a fight because "it'll be a bigger showdown in two years" or "we should marinate it".I asked Canelo if he felt a GGG showdown would be a bigger event if it was pushed back a year or two.
Of course he'd agree, he's been trying to avoid this fight with a GGG at 160 still in his relative prime for 3 months already."Exactly" Canelo said in agreement
Honestly, I can see no way this fight could get any bigger. You're fighting a jacked up WW who has gone to 155 for the first time ever, but looked poor in every fight at 147. The only way this fight could get bigger is if GGG picked up Saunders' belt, or if either you or GGG fought a certifiably elite boxer and won, like Ward, Froch, Kovalev - and none of those are likely, considering 2 are LHWs and 1 is retired."All of us feel that in a year or two the fight will be even bigger."
Who is this elusive "they"? So far as I'm aware, Canelo and GGG negotiate the fight, and if they're unable to the WBC will have to take it to purse bid using their internal governing rules. Canelo could make this fight tomorrow by saying "160lbs is the limit, and we'll give a 75 - 25 split". GGG's team would definitely take that. Even if Canelo then lost, he could say "I'm not used to fighting at 160" and he'd get some ****, but not too much - he could credibly come back in a year or two for a rematch, which he'd probably win."But we are here to fight and the day that they say the fight is made we will be ready to step into the ring."
It'd also probably cement his place as an ATG, because Golovkin's going to unify, the MW division is awful, so I can easily see GGG up there until at least 40 defending his titles. If Canelo lost now, then rematched and beat him in a few years, there'd be no shame in that.Comment

That's true. In the entire history of the sport, a world champion has never before demanded a catchweight from a mandatory challenger.Oh cut the bull****. Canelo rehydrates to 172 pounds on fight night. The same damn weight as GGG. He likely had a 15-20 pound ****ing weight advantage over Mayweather that night. Floyd was a welterweight who only moved up if the money was right. LOL @ trying to make this sound like some disadvantage when he two weight classes above Floyd in the ring.

"Waaah..he made me come down 2 pounds so it took away my 15 pound weight advantage. "
Floyd, Manny, Oscar or whoever never created their own damn weight class where they drained larger fighters and blew up little fighters. This is unprecedented in boxing history and some of the funniest **** I've ever seen in my life.
And if pro boxing is to continue as a serious competitive sport, the bull**** has got to stop NOW.Comment

But how is Khan big money? His gates for Algeri, Alexander, and Collazo were crap. His tv numbers are ok, not star-level. Yeah he's got a name beyond J-Rock, but not enough so that it justifies a circus fight like this.None of those guys generate as much money for Canelo as a fight with Khan does. None are big names or headlined big fights before like Khan has. All those guys have proven little up to this point. Canelo has already fought all the best Jr Middleweight in the last half decade (Cotto, Floyd, Trout, Lara). So Canelo has proven himself. The real question is why aren't any of those guys you mentioned fighting each other? Or the Lara's, Cotto's ect. Canelo was given a volunatry defense which GGG signed off on and is fighting the biggest money fight available. I can't blame him for not fighting an unknown up and coming that won't generate money especially not after he just fought Cotto. This is basically a stay busy fight before they start up negotiations for GGG in Sept
Khan/Canelo is a one-sided farce. Canelo's not old, shot and weight drained like Dela Hoya vs Pacquiao, and Khan's not destroying his opponents and on fire like Manny was, and even then that fight was supposed to be a joke. Canelo's the top bread winner in the sport right now, he's also the MW champion, he should damn well be fighting top-level opponents. If Canelo wanted a to fight a WW, Porter, Brook, or Thurman would've been far better. Hell, I'd rather see Canelo/Broner than Canelo/Khan (not to give DLH any ideas...)Comment

Why vacate when this idiot GGG allows him to fight a voluntary fight? Why didn't Floyd Vacate his belt at 154 either? Because idiot alpha belt organizations allowed him to defend it for 2 years straight at 147 weight limit and didn't enforce their own rules. And who says GGG has to agree to a catch weight if he wants the title? He doesn't. But he keeps allowing fighters step aside voluntary fights BECAUSE he wants the big fight and can care less about a belt. Otherwise he wouldn't step aside year after year and would force them to be vacated and he get's handed a paper belt. That's all he has to do if he wants the belt. But if he wants to fight Canelo it's a catchweightCanelo cares about the belt because if he didn't he would of vacated it. The whole situation is laughable and I can't wait to see how it gets handled after May 7th. GGG is the mandatory and has no obligation to agree to a catchweight.
If he takes step aside dollars again then that's on him and I can no longer defend him.Comment

Are you seriously trying to say a fight with J-Rock who NOBODY knows and has no fanbase earns Canelo as much money as a fight with Khan who is a huge attraction in the UK and has headlined big fights where as J-Rock is on the undercard or headlining fights tuesdays? His LAST fight was on FS1 toe to toe tuesday which avgs like 150k viewers. Khan last fight did like 1mil viewers. And you think guys like J-Rock attract the same amount of fans as Khan for a PPV? Nobody cares about ANYONE at 160 outside of GGG so Canelo should fight a 160 bum and do less PPV's and make less money to please you? Whether it's one sided is not the point anyone he fought likely would be one sided this is a stay busy fight in between fights with Cotto and GGG. This fight was taken because it is the most lucrative of the stay busy fights he was offered in May. What top level fighter is GGG fighting next? Khan is a better fighter then GGG's opponent who he admitted he never heard of before they offered him the fight. Khan is 2 division world champ and top ranked which is more then I can say for the bums GGG has fought. But how is Khan big money? His gates for Algeri, Alexander, and Collazo were crap. Canelo is an attraction all to himself. He wouldn't have to pay J-Rock $8mill to fight him, so whatever amount Khan adds to this fight is more than lost paying him that much. J-Rock or somebody like that would've fought for less than a mill. Alvarez was about to fight Clottey last December, he's a complete non-draw. Lara was a non-draw when he fought Alvarez and Kirkland wasn't much of a draw either. Are you seriously trying to say a fight with J-Rock who NOBODY knows and has no fanbase earns Canelo as much money as a fight with Khan who is a huge attraction in the UK and has headlined big fights where as J-Rock is on the undercard or headlining fights tuesdays? There wouldn't be any excuses if I woke up one day and read a headline like this one: 'The MW unification between Canelo and Golovkin set at MW limit'.
Crazy, I know.Comment
