Comments Thread For: Deontay Wilder's Manager Says Povetkin Deal is Coming Soon

The WBC ordered Wilder and Povetkin to begin negotiations on October 1 and if they did not reach an agreement by the end of the month, a purse bid would be held.
So you're blaming Wilder for delaying the fight because he chose to stay active until the mandatory was due? What sense does that make?
TWO MONTHS *before* negotiations were ordered to begin, Povetkin announced a fight for AFTER negotiations were ordered to be *completed.*
Meaning he had absolutely no intention of taking the fight in 2015, let alone January 2016.
There are two sides to every story, but sometimes one side is full of **** and this is one of those instances.
There is absolutely no logical way to blame Wilder for the delays. He's done everything by the book every step of the way while Povetkin has ignored the WBC orders every step of the way.Last edited by original zero; 02-18-2016, 06:48 AM.Comment

So glad it's happening. I really don't know who wins but I'll be happy with any result as long as it's emphatic. Wilder has been a fun ride but I'm pretty sure all of us are at least half-expecting that one day a solid shot is going to cause him to fall through the canvas. Would make for great TV and nonstop chatter from fans. If he KO's Povetkin, then we may be on the verge of witnessing the emergence of two new heavyweight stars in Wilder and Fury. Throw in a big Joshua win a few weeks earlier and maybe, just maybe, some of you will cut the boxing is dying chatter and get with the program. The sport is close to a resurgence.
Gotcha.
Idiot of the day goes to.....Comment

You started your post with a flawed interpretation of the WBC's ruling on this.
They said the negotiations had to begin by Oct. That was a deadline, not an appointment. The first delay was caused by Wilder deciding to make a voluntary defence before starting negotiations with Povetkin. He didn't have to do that, negotiations could have begun immediately. There was no requirement to wait till Oct.
You are also misinterpreting what I wrote in my comment. I said that Povetkin's side have a different story, but I didn't say that I believed their story over Wilder's.
I'm in no position to know who was telling the truth and who was lying. I assume it was six of one and half a dozen of the other. That's usually the case in situations like this.
I don't think that you are in any position to pass judgement on that either, unless you are going to tell me you are part of Haymon's team. In which case I wouldn't believe a word you said about it because I would know you were not impartial.
So what, the WBC President Sulaiman came out and blatantly lied about Povetkin's team asking for an extention to April/May from him?
And what? We imagined that Povetkin scheduled and fought in November against Wach when he was supposed to be negotiating a Wilder fight?
Stop talking trash, you making yourself look ******. Admitting you were wrong would actually make you way more respectable than this childish crap you pulling.Comment

Ok so why is the champ fighting a guy that is ranked 40? Povetkin is not the champ, he can fight whoever he wants. If Povetkin fought guys ranked that bad as champ I would be disappointed him as well. Wilder fought one guy with a good chin, Stiverne and he couldnt ko him. Did he even drop Dehaupus? You have no argument on this one, Wilder as done it to himself.Comment

wilder was the mandatory challenger for 2015 and fought for the title in january 2015 (he ended up winning). mandatories are usually due once a year, meaning the next mandatory was due in january 2016.
over the summer, the WBC ordered negotiations to begin in october for a fight to take place in december or january.
wilder agreed and took a fight in september so he could commence negotiations in october.
povetkin violated the order and took a fight in november, only to then claim he wouldn't be ready to fight for the title in december or january.
so wilder took another voluntary.
povetkin is the one that delayed the fight. all of this is easily verifiable fact.
I'm tabbing Povetkin in this one, I would say I was on the fence as I'm not rooting for one particular fighter here I just feel Szpilka pushed Wilder way to hard and the guy isn't even euro level IMO, dude would struggle winning the EBU title against a seasoned euro guy like Pulev or Chisora.
I expect Povetkin to continue on his current rip.Comment
