Comments Thread For: Loeffler on Working With Haymon Side To Finalize Golovkin-Wade

An odd trend has developed in fighters advised by Al Haymon suddenly appearing in major HBO events. The high-powered adviser was functionally blacklisted in 2013 by the network’s old guard, preferring to not commit full-time license fees to what was becoming a part-time relationship.

He's said this numerous times. When you think about it there are only two people who have a problem working with Haymon. That's Arum and De La Hoya. And De La Hoya never had a problem working with Haymon until he fired Schaefer. He was going to work with him after he fired Schaefer until Haymon bought out his fighters because he didn't want them locked into a promotions deal with an unstable crackhead who makes bad business decisions. Arum is just a hater who can't deal with Al because Al gets the best of him. Arum had no problem working with King because they both had the same goal. Rob the fighters. They only had to work out who would steal the most from the fighters.

Wade is meaningless in the grand scheme of things for HBO. You bring in guys like Lara, Garcia, Stevenson, etc and they make negotiations much more difficult, especially with Haymon around. The point of "banning" Haymon fighters was that they don't want to be pushed around by him anymore.

It isn't about K2's willingness to work with Haymon, it's about HBO forking out the money to pay Haymon's fighters. Haymon constantly overpays his fighters for taking soft touches, so that opens his fighters to ask for much more to take on bigger challenges on other networks. An example I can think of is Daniel Jacobs, who is one of my favorite fighters today, but he got 1.5 million to fight Quillin. I assumed that he would want at least 2X that much to fight GGG on HBO and he might want that on PPV. That turned out to be true and there's no way Jacobs, who doesn't have an actual title, can logically ask for anywhere near 3 million. Golovkin has not even been paid 3 million yet, and he's actually been on PPV. So when you guys mention Lara and DeGale and all those other Haymon fighters as potential GGG opponents, keep in mind that they will not accept HBO money. Lara's manager has gone on record as saying that they want "significantly more than 1 million dollars" to fight GGG...Loeffler told me that HBO and K2 would never shell out anywhere near a mil to fight someone like Lara who sold 250 tickets in his last fight and has been fighting no names and going 12 rounds with them. He has nothing for GGG and he wants millions, that fight will never happen unless he takes the amount of money Monroe was willing to take (150k.) Wade is probably getting like 100-200k for this fight and that's more than he's worth.

This tells us nothing though. We don't care about these guys. We are interested in whether Haymon's top guys will show up on HBO and Wade showing up doesn't indicate anything.
