I remember this old interview. He said it after being asked about fighting Ward at 168. I dont think its very difficult for him to make weight, cuz I remember him being only 182 lbs on fight night. He just answered anquestion in this way to avoid Dawson's mistake, and he did a right thing.

kovalev's a better boxer than ward. ward is better at manipulating the rules so he can win but kovalev is so good he doesn't have to do that. abraham won 2 of the first 3 rounds by outjabbing ward before abraham stopped throwing punches and even froch was getting the better of the jab in the second half of the fight. i can't see anyone doing that to kovalev. timing him with a big shot pasca/stevenson style sure but ward does not have a big shot. kovalev can hurt guys in the clinch as well as he did to hopkins and boone so ward isn't safe anywhere. even in oakland!

it's a shame boxing writers don't even know what pure boxing is anymore. ward's better at pure boxing? sure if pure boxing is clinching and jumping into your opponents with your head maybe. what kovalev does is pure boxing and he does it better than anyone. if ward is to beat kovalev he's going to have to disrupt kovalev's pure boxing with illegal tactics.

He's on video struggling to make it v Agnew, he had to go to the sauna or gym to work it off and he struggled to make it v Pascal.

He was 185 the morning of the Hopkins fight, and there is a 10lb IBF restriction.

Kovalev's a decent size at the weight, but Ward isn't naturally a small guy either.

Kovalev is now getting advice on nutrition from his new friend BHop and he made weight for the Pascal fights easily. One of the changes he made was to stick to the healthy food in between fights so he now starts his training camps lighter than he did before.

He hasn't lost a fight since he was a school-kid, including punching above his weight at the Olympics.

Ward needs to be sharp and right on point because Kovalev is a baaad boy..... but, he will be right in that fight.
A lot of people forget this and he won his gold medal outside of his natural weight class...he turned pro below 168 and fought at or near middleweight early in his career
