Comments Thread For: The Real Comeback of Andre Ward

By Cliff Rold - It took long enough to get settled but Tuesday night the announcement was made. The road to Sergey Kovalev-Andre Ward is officially underway.

The long expected but well delayed Ward bout with Sullivan Barrera was given a date and site. For Ward (28-0, 15 KO), the former WBA, WBC, and lineal world super middleweight champion, this is the beginning of his real comeback. If successful, it will culminate in acquiring the three light heavyweight title belts currently held by Kovalev (29-01, 26 KO).

    Nice well-balanced article Cliff.

Ward needs to make up for lost time, starting now.

I agree that Ward will likely take 1 more fight before Kovalev.

And the point about Ward just needing to win big, is **** on the money.

If Ward beats Kovalev there will be nothing left to say.

I'm not convinced Ward is better at pure boxing Cliff.

Better at inside boxing sure, but I'm not certain Kovalev will give him the chance to implement that tactic.

      Ward-Barrera should be fascinating.

I think Ward is more skilled, and he has better ring IQ..... and I also think he proven that he can adapt against top/experienced opponents.

He hasn't lost a fight since he was a school-kid, including punching above his weight at the Olympics.

Ward needs to be sharp and right on point because Kovalev is a baaad boy..... but, he will be right in that fight.

I have barely seen Kovalev lose a round, never mind a fight.

Much of Ward's touted skill is centred around his abilities on the inside, but chances are that won't be a factor against Kovalev.

It is possible, but Kovalev is coming down in weight too. This isn't a small LHW we're talking about.

I am very happy, but at the same time we have to wait. I hope Ward doesnt get some minor injury.

Kovalev isn't coming down in weight, is he? I thought this is for the light heavyweight title? This isn't a catchweight fight.

Kov looks like a beast right now. He might smash right through Ward or we might see Ward box his way to a decision.....I just can't make any predictions until I see Ward fight a good light heavyweight.

From what Kovalev said, he has to work very, very hard just to make 175. He doesn't even know how much longer he can make that weight.

I didn't know that. I always assumed he made the weight easily because he doesn't look very big or muscular.
It'll be interesting to see how long he can stick around the light heavyweight division for.
