If you're going to discredit Glaser's call on the Golovkin-Lemieux PPV, you can't then turn around and argue that Glaser was right on the Mayweather call. No different then when everyone trashed Stephen Espinoza(EVP, Showtime and point-person for boxing) when he said that Mayweather-Guerrero barely did 1m, yet took the word of Tom Loeffler (K2, secondhand access to the PPV numbers) when he stated that Golovkin-Lemieux did 150k (notice how no one at HBO stated that Golovkin-Lemieux did 150k).
a bit of consistency in thought never hurts.Comment

how did it turn out to be wrong? they always inflate the numbers i think he was right with ggg and mayweather berto. theres a reason hbo didnt release the numbers if it was what they said they would have no reason not to but chances are the 97k was right. Im pretty sure glazer has never been wrong when a network actually releases the official numbers. Its jsut were so used to hearing inflated numbers that when we hear 350k for mayweather or 97k for ggg it sounds weird i think its just ggg fans want to believe hes the biggest star in boxing otherwise i dont see why people even care the only reason people gave a **** in first place was because of mayweather and pac and who deserved splits but not that they have fought who gives a **** if a ppv is a bust or notLast edited by Cinci Champ; 02-02-2016, 02:17 PM.Comment

Can't have it both ways.

The actual 150k figure was stated by Loeffler, with Taffet talking about the income from the fight as a whole.
If you want to attach significance to that, go ahead, but I certainly see it as more credible than a guesstimate by a third person before the figures were released.Last edited by kafkod; 02-02-2016, 02:36 PM.Comment

ESPN posted statements from Loeffler and Mark Taffet, who runs HBO PPV.

It's just rich that the number that Loeffler decided to blurt seemed to fall exactly in line with what he said was needed to break even.Comment

Sergey Kovalev began his 2016 campaign in the same manner in which he kicked off 2015 – with a stoppage win over Jean Pascal at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada. The event fittingly produced nearly identical ratings results, as the sequel slightly outperformed the original in home viewership.
An average of 1.179 million viewers tuned in for Kovalev’s one-sided 7th round beatdown of Pascal in a three-belt light heavyweight fight that topped the 2016 season premiere of HBO World Championship Boxing. The event peaked at 1.269 million viewers.

Taffet is supposed to be the HBO guy who knows the PPV numbers, yet he went nowhere near standing by Loeffler's number, instead choosing to try and talk about how well the event did against heavy competition from playoff baseball.

If the fight didn't break even, K2 would never have offered BJS TWICE what Lemieux was paid to try and get him next. Think about it.
I know you and your buddies don't want to admit it, but GGG/Lemieux was definitely not a financial flop.Comment

The reason GGG/Lemieux was PPV was to cover the fighters purses. Lemieux was paid $1.5 million, far more than any of GGGs previous opponents. GGG earned his highest ever purse too.

Saunders Eubank Jr would be nowhere near a $10 million fight right now. If it was, they'd be falling over each other to make it happen, instead of giving it the cold shoulder.
Saunders would not make $3 million fighting Eubank Jr. They'd be doing very well to share that amount of money between them, if it happened in April.Last edited by kafkod; 02-02-2016, 10:31 PM.Comment
