  • I like Ward but there is no sense fighting Kov. He's not going to be able to hurt him! This fight will be Canelo/Lara but KOv. hits way harder...

      1) Canelo vs Lara was a very close fight
      2) Ward fights nothing like Lara. Lara doesn't slip inside, while Ward does that very often. Lara uses his legs more than Ward and doesn't stay in the pocket.
      3) Kovalev vs Ward would be a great fight

If Ward is close to 2010-2011 form, it's a great matchup. His next two tune-ups are going to tell us a lot. Hopefully we see the old form. If he's able to carry 175 well, we're looking at a classic.

you seriously think that? there's absolutely zero chance it can be a great fight simply because the only way ward has any chance of making it competitive is if he clinches it up nonstop. think floyd-maidana 2 style. was that a great fight?

            • Kovalev is an absolute savage.

Ward is a very good fighter, but Kovalev will beat him, probably by stoppage.

I am placing my Kovalev bet now, before the odds change and it's less value.
Ward is actually the favourite, which is absolutely ridiculous, and great news for people who want free money.

Kovalev will simply demolish Ward - he will steamroll right over him, brush away his hugging tactics like a little gnat, he will thump him from pillar to post, Ward will not win a round, and Ward defenders will say he was forced into the fight.

How can Ward live with this guy? It is free money getting 11/10 odds (2.10 I think USA equivalent). If there was a bet of "fight won't happen" I'd make that the most likely outcome, especially as Andrea was there last night, he will sc**** past Barerra (he was pressured into THAT one, didn't fancy it at all), and 'injure' his hand in the bout, then retire.

And if you read my post, it said "if he beats Ward", which I don't think he will. But if he does, where does he go? GGG sure as hell ain't gonna move up and fight him. There's no one at super middleweight that will excite the public. The cruiserweight division has always been pretty much ignored. So where does he turn for the next big fight?

And personally, I think he'd do fine at heavyweight. Maybe Ortiz is close from a skill standpoint. Who else? And I think he hits hard enough to make the big guys respect him. Can he overcome 6"+ of height that he'd be giving up to a lotta the top guys? Can he take a punch from a guy like Deontay Wilder? He may or may not become champ. But there's more than a few top 10 guys I love his chances against.
                  Theres two points really

One, Kovalev would have to face 6'5+ and 240lb+ giants in the HW division, which wasn't necessarily the case in the past. You could see Haye vs Kovalev potentially, a difference to be seen even there. But guys like Wlad and Fury vs Kovalev? it'd look like a joke.

Two, the HW isn't a glamour division anymore, nor is it full of talent. You have Fury and Wlad at the top, but very little else. Put it this way, Martin and Wilder are titleholders at the weight, showing very well how barren of talent it currently is. Maybe in a couple of years with Joshua, Parker and a resurgent Haye, but even then, its only a few names. Theres no natural attraction to the Heavyweights like there used to be. In some ways, that trend followed the Welterweight division these past few years, but thats slowly fading too.

                  • Kovalev was far superior to the Haiti man Pascal

Kovalev is far better than the weak Pascal who got worse under Roach because Freddy made Pascal try and thing and fight at the same time. Guys like pascal have it hard trying to think and fight and listen and all collectively in the same event. Pascal was overwhelmed with advice and looked horrible. Kovalev beat the voodoo out of Pascal as all of haiti trembled as shacks and lean to's collapsed.

Andre Ward is considered the favorite because people that understand boxing and aren't emotionally invested know that he's a better fighter, much better. The only question mark heading into the fight is whether Kovalev's size and punching power can overcome the talent and skill gap. If Ward wasn't moving up. And wasn't a good puncher. The outcome wouldn't be in question.
