If you think Alexander would have beaten the Maidana that Floyd fought then that's fair, I won't argue that. It's just that when people say he's still the same fighter, it bothers me. Just like how Khan changed under Virgil Hunter. There seems to be a small minority that thinks Maidana is still the same even though it was blatantly obvious that he wasn't and it caught everyone by surprise with the Karass fight.

The guy you have in your GIF, Canelo is also different than when he was fighting the likes of Shane Mosley. A lot of people still think he's the same fighter, but it's blatantly obvious from the Cotto fight that he has new tricks up his sleeve. He's still a counter-puncher and remains largely the same, but he's putting a large emphasis on his athleticism and agility. Maidana meanwhile put a large emphasis on technique rather than just simply delivering power. Look at him in the video I posted. Now look at this:

    Not at all the same..
Garcia had him more defensively responsible, made him throw shorter punches but it wouldn't have been enough to beat Alexander. I don't think highly of Alexander, lord knows I was one of his biggest critics when he was coming up but I do feel that he's Maidana's kryptonite. Maidana's style is dependent on being able to outmuscle his opponents and he just can't do that against Alexander. Alexander having a very solid chin didn't help either.

Mayweather vs Maidana 2 is my favorite boxing match; even though Maidana fight dirty (bite, headbutt, lowblow) he was an aggressive die-hard man.

Never been a fan of him, (how the hell did he not KO Khan?) but damn... he did good against Floyd. Sadly i don't think we'll see this guy again.

Actually, that's one of the biggest misconceptions about Maidana's style. He doesn't out muscle his opponents. He did that against Floyd. Maidana's is a mid-range fighter, contrary to popular belief. Maidana's style is more like how he fought Floyd in the rematch than in the 1st fight. He relies more on landing his power punches than "out muscling". Shawn Porter out muscles his opponents, Maidana just happens to keep range very often and he effectively cuts off the ring so to the naked eye it appears like he's doing what Porter does, but the reason he has more power than Porter is because he doesn't smother his offense and relies on staying at a distance to effectively get leverage on his power. Again, there's more to Maidana than you think.

Yes he does, when he failed to do so he didn't look too good, Soto Karass is another good example of that. It was clear that Maidana's inability to push Alexander back played a major role in his defeat, it was also clear that not being able to utilize his free hand the way he's accustomed to, especially with rabbit punching, did as well. I've always known Maidana was mid range, this is why he's real selective with what he does on the inside, he picks his opportunities well but against Alexander all that was neutralized.

Sure but lets be honest here, what was his last good win?

              Victor Ortiz? Adrien Broner?

So what you're basically saying is that illegal tactics that can be neutralized depending on the referee is the reason why Alexander is a better fighter? Lol, let's say it's Jack Reese as the referee and Alexander starts getting points deducted for holding...BINGO. Game over. Also, it was their first fight at 147. Alexander was very well filled out while if you look at both of their bodies, you can see Maidana's body grew into the division over time where as Alexander hasn't changed much at all. That's not much of a factor though.

They were both undefeated when he beat both of them to be fair. Ortiz' only loss was because he knocked someone the **** out with an illegal punch lol.
