  • Comments Thread For: Freddie Roach: Marquez is Perfect Opponent For Miguel Cotto

Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach has a new fight in his sights, where two legends of the sport would collide at the tail-end of their storied careers.

Roach, who trains former four division world champion Miguel Cotto (40-5, 33KOs), is very interested in having his fighter take on Juan Manuel Marquez (56-7-1, 40KOs).

This would be a very nice way for both warriors to "ride off into the sunset!" Just don't ask us to pay $60 to see it!

B.S. cotto just out boxed alvared between 153 and 155lbs. mayweather when he fought marquez at 146 was to big and he's smaller than cotto.marquez should take a tune up then go after pacquiao then retire.

Marquez to small and he's pretty much retired, when was the last time he fought?

Two of my favourite fighters, and a fight i'd always wanted to see.
At this stage though; weight, age..i'm not sure how doable it is.

obviously you don't want to see it if you don't want to pay.both are future hall of famers and are going to be paid well or no fight.

They can be paid well without PPV. I know for sure Cotto can. Remember this?

              June 23, 2014:

Miguel Cotto's 10th-round knockout of Sergio Martinez to win the world middleweight championship on June 7 in New York was a historic performance, just one seen by far fewer people than the promoters and HBO anticipated.

The fight at Madison Square Garden generated approximately 350,000 buys on HBO PPV, Top Rank chairman Bob Arum, Cotto's promoter, told ESPN.com, a figure co-promoter Lou DiBella and HBO said was accurate...

"The numbers were not great," said Arum, who is rehabilitating in Los Angeles after having knee replacement surgery last week. "All the numbers boxing has been getting on pay-per-view have been terrible. It's not disappointing; it just is what it is. There are too many (pay-per-view cards).

On a technical basis, it sounds like a solid matchup but as others have stated, coming to an agreement on weight may be an issue.

this will 100% be a ppv fight. HBO or showtime cannot pay that kind of money for a championship boxing card, boxing after dark, etc.

honestly, if the undercard is good, i'll buy it. the styles should make for an interesting fight. cotto's not enough of a mover or long enough in the arm to outclass marquez. i think cotto should be favored, but marquez, under heredia, can gas up and punch

i have no idea how that quote connects with the idea that these two command so much money that they're going to be on PPV or not fight.

they're not going to take a massive paycut in the last fight of their careers, especially agaisnt such a heavy drawing opponent. HBO and showtime have a finite budget for their boxing programming for the year, and they won't spend the entire thing on one fight. these two will be on PPV, or they won't fight!
