It almost seems like all fighters should just toss their gloves in the trash, and replace all that "unnecessary risk" by playing each other on Fight Night. Who needs risk or legendary status right? Lets set Ward and Kovalev in front of a TV with their controllers LOLThis is what boxing's fan base has become. Justifying ducking. Pathetic. Absolutely pathetic. This is why boxing continues to get worse in this regard - fans let fighters get away with it. There is no real negative consequence for the fighters. If the fans don't hold them accountable, who will?Comment

And thats why he died broke as ****...Very true sir. But I have to agree to disagree with you, Joe Louis is one of my favorite boxers of all time and he didnt make crap for $ and Im sure he wouldve fought Max Schelming for free out of pride, honor and country. He also went out of his way just to pay back a corrupt US government that ripped him off. So although I do agree with what you say for the most part, I think not every fighter thinks $ is top priority...Comment

I don't even get this thread when nowadays legend and money go together. Only reason why you'll go broke is because you're spending what you earned like water coming out of the faucet.
Show me a current potential legend that's not being compensated properly.
Is this some kind of an excuse or what?Comment

The reasons why so many fighters go broke is because they come from nothing and are not smart enough to realize their income is finite. Add to that the leeches they they carry with them, and you see how the well can go dry.
Tyson, Holyfield, Pacquiao, Jones Jr. the list goes on and on. They earned more money than most of us can ever dream of, and they also blow it on unnecessary luxuries, friends, bloodsuckers etc.
Once in a while, a smarter guy comes along, Like Foreman, Bradley etc, who know what to do with their money. They are and will be doing fine.Comment

that's nice and all, but not when your kids and wife are left to pay your debts.....personally I couldn't care less about how people think of me....I'll rather my family be set for generations and not have to grind tooth and nail like I had to
Screw all that...most the times a boxer isn't venerated until he is dead, used up, punch drunk or broke...keep you admiration, I'll take the compensationComment
