IT'S OFFICIAL: Golovkin vs Tureano Johnson

The thread would just generate crickets anyway. Not many would want to touch it. My point is the situation we have in this sport is not only with GGG. It is widespread. My point is at least GGG is trying to make things happen. Yes Tureano can only be regarded as a prospect, but at least he is not a guy who was retreaded 10 times. It is not ideal, but I pointed out much worse ones. Yes GGG will be a heavy favorite like he has been, but it is because he is considered that good, he has that false aura of invincibility that they once pegged on Tyson.. I still refuse to sh|t on guys like GGG, Porter and Bradley who seem willing to get in the ring with anyone. Hell the guy just came fresh out of a unification fight and he still got **** on for it.
Some people just have it to detract him no matter what he does. It is deeply rooted and there is nothing to gain their respect for him.
He didn't get sh-t on for a unification fight.. He got sh-tted on because the fight was against another 8-1 underdog. the guy could take fights at 168 that would be tougher than the Tuareno Johnson level opponents. This is the point that most GGG fans keep refusing to discuss.
Instead, they want to deflect to "deep rooted" reasons for the comments. Its not that deep. He is being ranked in the top 3 p4p and hasn't defeated anything higher than an 8-1 underdog. Each time he doesn't get Canelo, we get more overmatched opponents with no chance to win. That is something worth discussing.
When Chocalito was elevated to #1, the same discussions were had. Why do GGG fans get so offended at posters debating his resume and p4p qualifications as they have done with other fighters for years on NSB?Comment

DEanrw, if you can't understand why people are discussing GGG more than the guys at 154, then you are either ******ed (which you are not) or are deflecting. GGG is HBO's #1 non PPV fighter, that is why we are discussing him more.

Jacobs is with Haymon and you often point out the problems with trying to fight Haymon guys. The Canelo fight may or may not happen. Saunders, seriously? Saunders himself said he was 18 months away from a GGG fight. HBO/K2 will likely (to use a phrase you often employ when discrediting Haymon) overpay him to get him to fight this year.
I can understand the Canelo fight and I hope it happens.Comment

If other guys want hype, they have to go out there and fight and look spectacular doing it. Either by knocking guys out, or completely shutting them down.Comment

This is pretty funny, but I'll play along. Just for giggles, here is Boxrec top 10 at 168. I would LOVE to know which of these fights you think has even a shred of hope it could be made (and dont pretend the HBO-Haymon beef is suddenly over)
1. Abraham
2. Degale
3. Smith
4. Dirrell
5. Jack
6. Chudinov
7. Murray
8. Sturm
9. Groves
10. Ramirez
So lets hear it. Which of these fights is makeable?
Andre Ward
Arthur Abraham
James DeGale
Badou Jack
George Groves
Robert Stieglitz
Anthony Dirrell
]Fedor Chudinov
Gilberto Ramirez Sanchez
Lucian Bute
Sakio Bika
Bolded are all possible, I believe. Also, are there only 10 fighters at 168?
You get my point but are just taking it to the outer extreme to avoid and undermine it because you like GGG.Comment

OK, but here is where you are sort of being disingenuous.

Same for Saunders. Probably wont happen, but certainly worth the effort by K2 to at least try.
We will know in May whats what with Canelo. I hope this is the end of it, one way or the other.Comment

if he fought anyone below the top 10 you would be the FIRST one to say he is fighting nothing but slobs just like he did at 160 and blah blah blah......Comment

I think Jacobs has ZERO chance of being made as a free negotiation, but I do hold out hope that if the WBA mandated the fight, there is a slim chance that K2 could win a purse bid for it. So I dont rule it out 100%

I can understand why some of you respond to me the way you do. Yet when you guys are being brutally honest about the situation (and credit to you for an honest response) you end up in the same general space I am. the only difference is you guys like GGG and I am not a huge fan.
As realists, it is very unlikely that GGG can get these fights so me saying he "has nothing left at 160" is not an indictment on GGG as a fighter. Its being a realist.Comment
