If he could have fought Canelo he would, if he could have fought Saunders, he would, **** if it was Froch or Chavez Jr. We wouldn't be talking about Johnson...period. Stop making excuses. Just hope this guy fights canelo at the end if the year. Otherwise he wasted a half of year on a crap mandatory
So then it could go to a purse bid? That would just delay the outcome. Why do you think they were aggressively going after Saunders? Because it would have been a title unification. I swear some people on here complain just to complain. Canelo wouldn't fight him now. Saunders wouldn't fight him. That leaves his mandatory so what should he do? Say no, have it go to purse bid, win the purse bid and fight Johnson? Brilliant.

Mandatory was due in June, why would he postpone it when there's no one else to fight.

Always liked Johnson's style, I wanted to see this last year when GGG was looking for people to fight. He's not the best or anything but he's got some good craft on the inside, his defense within that range is somewhat comparable to how Canelo will be looking ot use his superior craft in those quarters too. It's not a straightline comparison - Canelo is much smarter and he doesn't fall too far in like Johnson

all I care to see in this fight is if TJ can take away GGG's jab in some way..if his style of defense and reflex, can get inside of it, then I will go back to rethinking Canelo's chances. And then we can see if Canelo can take Rosado's away and go from there

Nobody said he was a world beater. He is a decent fighter though, and even if he was not mandatory, he seems to be the only guy willing to fight GGG.

Say that's the case, the mando is due in june, so why exactly is he only fighting twice this year? He could have picked up a substantial opponent, satisfied his mando and still had time to wait on Canelo. Instead it's, a mando in the middle of the year nothing at all in the beginning of the year and wait and hope he gets a shot vs canelo. Once again, you guys make it seem like his only viable option is to wait around. I have a hard time understanding that. Why let someone else dictate your career? He may well get the Canelo fight one day and I really hope he does, but this ****, these types of opponents are getting harder and harder to swallow and excuse especially if he's only gonna be fighting twice a year hare on out.

Pretty important part to make a fight!

Johnson has been talking about GGG for at least a year now. Saying he's "more Mexican style than Golovkin" and how he's going to beat him, he saw things in the Lemeiux fight that he could have capitalized on that David couldn't, etc etc. There was a great Ring online article on him a couple months ago title, "Meet the man that has no fear of Golovkin". It's a good read, talks about his history making it as an Olympic fighter who advanced to the third round in Beijing, good personal info, etc. Worth the read.

Isn't it because the whole plan is to fight Canelo?

He could have picked up a substantial opponent, satisfied his mando and still had time to wait on Canelo. Instead it's, a mando in the middle of the year nothing at all in the beginning of the year and wait and hope he gets a shot vs canelo.
Substantial like who? BJS turned him down, Andy Lee just lost, Jacobs can't happen, Quillin is in limbo (might go 168 who knows) and Golovkin isn't going to move up to 168 pounds for one fight then move right back down to 160 (or 155, 156, 157 or whatever weight it will be at). Options are kinda thin right now. The only one name that comes to mind is Lara but who the hell knows if that's possible or not.

Everyone here would love to have Golovkin fight 3-4 times a year. Everyone. We all want that. I think it's clear they are banking on the Canelo fight later this year and apparently, they are fine with that. What they wanted was Andy Lee and Canelo. That was what they were hoping for. It didn't pan out that way unfortunately. I'm not sure if there is more to the fighting twice this year or not. I swore I read the reasoning behind it before but I'm drawing a blank.

Once again, you guys make it seem like his only viable option is to wait around. I have a hard time understanding that. Why let someone else dictate your career? I'm not sure what you want him to do. This is a mandatory and the only way around it is a unification fight, which they attempted to get but were rejected. What are the options right now? Move to 168 for a fight? If he does that and can get the Canelo fight, man, that's playing with fire. You really shouldn't go up & down like that but let's just say for argument sake gaining/losing weight this year isn't an issue, is there a particular fight that's worth risking all that for right now? Again, I think the only low risk/good reward option is Lara, if he somehow could get on HBO at middleweight that would be cool. I'd definitely support that idea. If they could get Johnson/Lara and then Canelo? That would be a great year. Dunno if it's possible though, I really don't know what's up with Lara and if he's serious about 160 and could fight on HBO or not.

I feel you in regards to it sucking that they are "letting one man dictate their career" but I think it's something GGG has been working hard at achieving for several years and he's extremely close in getting it, so I don't think it's that easy, nor smart, to simply walk away from that right now with him being so damn close. At the end of the year if Canelo is still making excuses? Yeah, time to move on.

I would just like someone, anyone, to name an opponent willing to step into the ring with GGG right now who is not named Tureano Johnson? Anyone? Give me a name, a real one. Of course some clown will name Lara, who has as much interest in stepping into the ring with GGG as Peter Quillin did. Detractors though will detract.

If someone has this supreme master plan please fill me in. They completely ignore all the obstacles tossed GGGs way, and still have nothing bad to say about the dudes clearing out of his path.

Hey Pal, who is this "substantial" opponent that you speak of? Who is willing to fight him at 160 that is worth a damn besides Canelo?
