By "next year" you mean 2017?... not so sure, though. Better take "down the line" -- it's safer.

Ward is only 71" in reach, while Froch is 75".
Froch only consistently used range in a couple of fights from what I remember, otherwise he liked simply coming to his opponents, or starting one way only to neglect it at some point. But here we are... talking about Froch to Kovalev. Yes we can..

Froch used his reach against Abraham, Bute and Kessler (II).

... (in case Ward would face Kovalev) he would like to jump inside, because from the distance or from the mid-range Kovalev will make him look really bad.

I am thinking the "level" is concentrated in a few fighters - Kov, Stevenson, Beterbiev and possibly Ward - but depth is not there when Cleverly and Fonfara go life and death.

You are right if you put it this way.

(When i first watched Beterbiev I instantly saw him fighting Ward from inside)

I also remember that poor Sad Chad landed actually nothing on Ward, in the 5th and 7th rounds.

I dunno I think Kovalev wins a decision in this one. He is good at controlling the distance and unless ward can get inside on him he'll rack up the points and maybe land something big in the process

The thing that remains to be seen is if this is the same Ward or not. His last fight showed that he still has the skill, but we won't know if he can still deal with pressure until we see him with top opposition again.
It's actually the other way around. Ward had never beat ANYONE GREAT (Kess/Froch are NOT Great). BHop is better than BOTH guys.
