I can see that most of the names mentioned in upsets over a good fighters aren't bums at all but at least 2nd tier fighters. Sure they were not elite and were underdogs at the time. However, most of them were pretty decent fighters.

        Leon Spinks beat Ali
        Danny Green beat RJJ
        Stevenson got KOed by Boone
What's the definition of a bum? Boone was hardly a bum, he gave Stevenson, Ward and Kovalev good work...seems like he was more of an underachiever than bum.

          How did he beat them?
Baldomir against Judah, one of the best stories in recent years.

Most of the guys mentioned in this thread aren't really bums.

Buster Douglas, Iran Barkley, Castillo, Mayorga were all good fighters who had some losses.

Baldomir and Purity might come close, but they're more like journeymen. Like Rahman.

they call him a bum because they lost their house, betting on Tyson.

Douglass had talent and skill, he just wasnt disciplined all the time but had a lot of ability

Well the title said a "bum". I'm pretty sure those guys fit the bill. I try to stay on topic when possible.

                    Danny Williams over Tyson.
Williams wasn't a bum at that stage but he blew hot & cold & was an underachiever.
The tried to fix the fight for Tyson but Williams took if out of their hands
The way Williams beat Tyson was the same blueprint for most of Tyson's losses, grit down & take on the bully
