Walters is being set up to be called a ducker.

[QUOTE=SilverMiles;16358977]Even if Walters leaves Top Rank he could still fight Uchiyama. That's the fight most want to see, either that or Francisco Vargas.
Yea, I've said that twice now.
Not true. And if you read my original post you'll understand why I said not true. We don't know and the last we heard Walter's team wouldn't respond. Seems like they could answer either yes or no when asked if they're still with TRComment

Watanabe gym president has said he is currently 'working' on a fight in America for Uchiyama, if he wins tomorrow... to take place in Spring. Takashi himself has referenced this in a few of his recent interviews, such as one with JP times.
Ive looked and asked around quite a lot and cannot locate anything specific towards Arum, TR or even Walters. Fortuna may be another option, or Vargas but thats doubtful. But you must remember, it is very difficult to get solid information in Japanese boxing...
The only thing that fits on the opposing side is Arum claiming he has arrangements for Walters to face Uchiyama in April - no conflict of information there. It all fits, but Watanabe has no confirmation (or denial), nor would you expect to see one on their end...they do not publicly speak out like Western promoters
But as said before, Walters has every right to challenge Uchiyama under any promotional banner - if he doesn't do so, its on himComment

they got to figure out a way to keep walters fighting little guys 3 classes below him and make him look like a fearless beastMost of the best boxers are called duckers by some fans and are supposed to be ducking someone. Being called a ducker could be considered a complement. Only good, important boxers get to be called duckers even if they aren't ducking anybody. Nobody cares who average boxers fight. Mayweather was constantly called a ducker and it never seemed to bother him. Sometimes the boxer being labeled a ducker is ducking another boxer but usually they aren't ducking anybody.Comment

Well that is how Arum does business. He is likely use the Uchiyama fight to get Walters to sign a contract extension with him if Walters contract is truly up. I guess we will have to wait and see how things play out.
This really wouldn't be considered a duck if he jumped to PBC, Roc Nation or whoever. He just got to 130 it is not like he been fighting in 130 for awhile been avoiding Uchiyama
I want Walters vs Fortuna just as much if not MORE than I want Walters vs Uchiyama because if he beats Uchiyama it will be discredited as "Uchiyama Was Old" anyway. Fortuna is young and World Champion and he is in his prime and he is a difficult stylistic match up. But I would be OK with either match up.Comment

I agree with the OP entirely; this is a good thread. I, however, don't think that Arum is any worse than Haymon. I just think boxing itself is rotten to the core. Arum may be worse for certain fighters (the ones who want to leave, anyways...), but Haymon is worse for the fans imo. That said, Walters clearly got robbed in his last fight, and when you combine that with these Uchiyama comments from Bob, and you realize that Walters' contract is up...it becomes painfully obvious what is going on.Comment

A win over 'old' Uchiyama is a lot better than a win over Fortuna though, legacy-wise - its not as if Takashi has been slipping recently. He's an older boxer, but he started quite late too, something a lot of people forget. His very good wins over Miura and Salgado, as well as OK wins against Vasquez and Solis put him head and shoulders above the rest of 130.Well that is how Arum does business. Look at Fortuna, his best win, which he didn't look like a marvel in, is Vasquez - which isn't even much of an accolade for Uchiyama who battered him before. He sc****s top 5 for me, but barely. Fortuna isn't a world champion in most peoples eyes, he has the paper version of Takashi's belt. That being said, I wouldn't mind either Walters/Fortuna vs Uchiyama for different reasons.Comment
