So whatever happened, idk how many years ago, most likely does not happen again in an actual boxing fight between the two. Guys like Pascal and B-Hop are in the 180-182lb range and they are pretty good sized LHW. Kovalev has probably topped out and won't come heavier than 188-190lbs but that's still big.

If Abel is lying, Kovalev does not seem to care because he has been saying that for like 2 years now and not once has Kovalev denied it. So I think it's true.

if something isn't true you don't have to go out of your way to deny it

the bscener thinks these guys sit around listening to what pundits, other fighters, promotrs, say in the media, which is crazy. fighters train, fight, collect paychecks, and go home. they don't set up meetings with media. they have publicists for that. the biggest fighters i dealt with would literally have somebody set aside a time and hand them a telephone when it was time to talk. i had media credentials for several years, and not once did a boxer call me to talk about sparring rumors i assure you that abel sanchez running his mouth about sparring never crosses the mind of sergey kovalev, by all accounts one of the meanest fighters in the sport. it's possible that he's not even aware of the rumors.

lots of boxers don't even follow boxing. people don't believe me when i tell them that, but it's the truth. kovalev speaks very little english, and isn't a good interview anyway. when do you see him interviewed about anything, never mind something so petty as a rumor about sparring from one of the biggest blowhards in boxing in 2015? it's not like he's got endless opportunities to deny that golovkin dropped him when they sparred, and he's certainly not going to need to go out of his way denying it.

if golovkin's people were supremely confident about the outcome of a kovalev fight, which is much more important than a sparring match, they'd fight him on PPV. in all likelyhood that fight wouldn't even get sanctioned for a world title, because golovkin is a MW and has been for 10 years.

kovalev and sanchez had a nasty split, dude. sanchez trained him for his first 7 or 8 fights as a pro before kicking him out of his gym. they do not like each other, and it is well documented. you're gonna need more than an interview from a biased sanchez, one of the louder trainers in the sport not named floyd or freddie, to convince me

videos of the sparring, or a verified link [video with a real translator] to an interview from kovalev.

A Kovalev dedicated russian site(luckily with the option to translate to english)

This is apparently from back in 2013
            http://kovalboxer.com/en/text/182--l-r.html
Once, a few years ago, I returned to the USA from Russia, only began trainings and me put with Gena who was already in working condition. I somewhere зазевался and it it is valid, accurately I got to me directly to a solar plexus. I sat down on a knee, some time was necessary to breathe … Here actually and all. As for Gena, has to tell at once – he is the great boxer and the correct, good person. I respect it. And it isn't a shame to me to admit that experience of our sparrings gave me as to the boxer much.

              "It's a lie doe!!!!!!!!"

Just messing around, but really as others have said, that stuff could happen in sparring at any time. In a real fight, I'd favor Kovalev to hurt and possibly stop GGG.

Sergey Kovalev. All this "cotton wool" … About Shumenov I am ready to repeat, the real champion has to fight and protect the belt more often. Now according to Golovkin. We really stood more than once with it in couple. Once, a few years ago, I returned to the USA from Russia, only began trainings and me put with Gena who was already in working condition. And in general it is always pleasant to me to communicate with Gena. Not absolutely I understand, for what purpose in this history with my interview приплели Golovkin …

this is the full posting from the website. it's difficult to understand because of the translation, but it does sound like he took a knee during his first week of sparring when golovkin was in condition to fight.

that's a far cry from how sanchez tells it.

Gg stops him not a doubt. If kov had to take a knee in sparring imagine in a fight when gg would go full force and kov wouldn't be able to take a knee because he knows he would lose a point

Yes, its an old story that GGG dropped Kova with a body shot. Kova never denied it!

Kovalev was actually asked about sparring with GGG. All he said GGG has unmatched power and he seemed to indicated GGG hurt him. I don't believe he said if he was dropped or not.

But, considering GGG has the nastiest most accurate, most well disguised body shots in the game, it's obviously more than possible. Like I said, its an old story and Kova never denied it.

Edit - I see someone posted the proof of Kova talking about it.
