I voted no. It is possible he is telling truth but the guy talks an awful lot unlike GGG who is very confident but never a trash talker. Kovalev and GGG are both great fighters and punchers. When two great fighters spar the guy with a 15 pound weight advantage is the guy most likely to get the best of it. Kovalev seems fearless to me. If GGG told this story I would believe him. I think it's more likely Abel made it up to enhance GGG's reputation which really needs no help.

How could GGG possibly duck Ward when Ward only talks about fighting but never actual fights anybody. Ward spends 365 days a year healing from some mysterious injury. He never actually fights anymore. That was something he did years ago. In the time frame when Ward was supposed to be fighting GGG who did he actually fight?????? Ward was fighting his favorite foe. The great and famous fighter named NOBODY.

Thats how it was, but when you listen to this **** talker Sanchez, it looks like Kovalev got KTFO and runned crying out of the gym, lol. I am pretty sure, if Kovalev lets his hands go, he would hurt GGG pretty bad...
I read somewhere (or maybe saw a video) that Kovalev was saying that he was trying to hold back because he didn't want to risk hurting GGG as he was about to fight and that GGG was relentless and very strong.

Stuff like this happens in sparring. When you're full time job is to exchange punches then there is obviously a chance that out of the countless rounds of sparring you'll get hurt/dropped every now and then even vs guys who are below your level let alone against someone like GGG. Doesn't mean anything. What matters is that Kovalev is the #1 LHW in the World.

What you mean, like how Ward is still chasing after SMWs?

i don't believe for a second that golovkin dropped him, nevermind that kovalev, a p4p fighter and a 175 lber with genuine knockout power, is scared of any man at LHW or below.

sergei kovalev killed a guy, for those who don't know. he has that kind of power and precision. by all accounts he's a mean, mean fighter. he's not f#cking scared of gennady golovkin .
I believe it happened, just that at this point is irrelevant. Kovalev has grown well into a LHW, he's one of the biggest LHW's at 190lbs on the day of the fight. He's grown too much. So whatever happened, idk how many years ago, most likely does not happen again in an actual boxing fight between the two. Guys like Pascal and B-Hop are in the 180-182lb range and they are pretty good sized LHW. Kovalev has probably topped out and won't come heavier than 188-190lbs but that's still big.

If Abel is lying, Kovalev does not seem to care because he has been saying that for like 2 years now and not once has Kovalev denied it. So I think it's true.

"When Kovalev first came to me he had nine fights. He was a young man, not in age but in boxing ability. When he came to me Golovkin was already a world champion, and a silver medalist in the Olympics, over 300 amateur fights...he had had all these credentials.

"So when they sparred it was like a very experienced guy against a very inexperienced guy, so of course Golovkin got the best of him," Sanchez said.

Sanchez credited Kovalev's new trainer, John David Jackson with turning him into a killer. "That guy we see on Saturday is not the guy who left my gym, because the guy who left my gym was still a pup.
