I swear people on here act like 300K to fight Ward is peanuts. Then blame Ward for Barrera turning it down. I know the hate for Ward on this site is strong but lets not throw the truth out the window just because you don't like somebody.

Didn't Kovalev get 500K to fight Hopkins? But people expect Ward's opponents to make more money

        It wasn't $300,000

According to Barrera it was just 75 cents:

Why is 300K not enough for Barrera? GGG opponents get paid less than that and he's considered a draw.
It's cause everybody knows his minimum is 2m+, and his last HBO no name opponent got 1m. Ggg opponents get much better splits, except for Monroe which was still 5x his career high if that counts

Why is Andre Ward stooping down to GGG level opponents? Wtf?

Here take the same risks that I'm gonna take, even though you have far more pull at 175 than I do, but do it for 15% of what I'm going to make and in my backyard.

That honestly sound like a "fair" deal to anyone here?

Obviously I think you might be if you are confused. Barrera has the madatory title shot, not Ward. Ward hasn't even fought at 175 (well, technically his 172 CW wasn't exactly within the SMW division) officially. Just because Jay-Z is willing to dump 2 million on a Ward fight doesn't mean a thing besides his promoter has a lot of cash to throw around. Barrera knocked out Murat, another 175 pound boxer, in his last fight while Ward was busy fighting Paul Smith at 172.

So, what exactly has Ward accomplished at 175? Nothing. Shoot, what has he accomplished in the last 2.5 years?

We are talking about pull, who's the the more accomplished fighter and bigger draw? Who's the fighter Kovalev's been calling out, who's the fighter that can move up and get a shot without working his way up the rankings? It sure aint Barrera because he doesn't have the pull.

Barrera has a far better resume at 175 than Ward.

Ward just has ONE light heavyweight win, over a bloated super middleweight Paul Smith, who was coming off two losses and appeared to not even train for the fight.

Barrera is a bigger draw in Florida than Ward is in California, because his style is more fan-friendly (Ward has an ugly style, he just grapples, clamps his opponents arms, and head butts).

Ward had to give away ringside tickets for his fight with Smith!!!
