Considering that Canelo had faced better competition in just the last few years, as a new champ in his early 20s, than his possible opponent has in his ten years as champion into his mid thirties, taking an easier stay busy fight shouldn't get him any ****.

I've never seen any problem whatsoever with champs taking one stay busy, skill building, test kind of fight for every proper, legitimately ranked title fight they have. Sadly, even that practice often gets frowned upon these days and it's why we don't see a lot of those same skills being built up anymore.
    greenk for this post.

My only problem is HBO approving Rosado for a main event of a (likely) PPV when he has no chance to win.

I don't care who his tune up is next as long as the Golovkin fight happens later on in the year.

Canelo can do what he wants, but IMO Rosado does nothing for him. Rosado is smaller -can fight at 154 and 160, doesn't have much punching power and let's not kid ourselves, Clottey was his first victory in 3 years.

If Canelo wants a stay busy fight, sure, fight Gabe. If he wants to fight a true MW to prepare himself for Golovkin, this is not the way to go.

Well there's fighters who have fought Rosado as a step up fight, Canelo fighting him as a legit defense leaves me bitter as a big fan and supporter of Canelo. I want Canelo to be the next superstar(he probably is already). So this is just something like, just like Mayweather fighting Berto after back to back to back challenging fights vs Canelo, Maidana 2x and Pacquiao I was still bitter about the Berto fight(and many of his detractors even more). I will treat Canelo no different as a fan of his, I want to see him take on the next best. It's hard at MW because the whole division is trash, but I mean take out the next big trash bag before GGG.

Sorry mate, but this view is naive and in no way represents the reality of what Golovkin has to deal with.

Golovkin is not the one making fights. He doesn't point his finger at an opponent and says "I fight him". The opponents don't have to agree to fight him, and they generally don't. Most recent example is BJ Saunders. He said he needs to do what's best for his career and he's not gonna fight Golovkin for ~ 18 months. What's GGG supposed to do? Drag him kicking and screaming into the ring?

Also, the money has to make sense for the fight to happen. You have people like Quillin and Jacobs who want at least $5m for the fight. That's more than all GGG/Lemieux purses combined! Do you expect Golovkin to shell out ~4m of his own money just to get a "better" opponent into the ring with him?

Your opinion is so widespread on NSB by people who see the world as black and white. The reality is never that straight forward. Everything is a different shade of gray.

              Call up Geale.

Losing to Barker and Mundine, getting beat up by Cotto and GGG inside of 12 rounds is better than having like 10 losses, which like 3 of 4 of his recent losses were TKO's. I mean fight the guy that both Cotto and Golovkin stopped rather than who Angulo and Quillin stopped. On top of it all Geale is still #9 in The Ring rankings, attributed more to the weak state of the division but still, you can say you beat up a top 10 guy at the division you are a champion in, instead of saying you beat Rosado.

i dont like this fight, canelo gets nothing from it... he will be better with a cotto rematch and i am not excited about it either... too bad the mw division is crap...

Why is it wrong if Canelo fights Rosado, especially if he fights GGG after?
why should rosado get a shot at part of the wbc mw title and a guy who is the "lineal" champion? even though that doesn't mean much in modern middleweight boxing.

And kirkland was hardly a challenge lol

you dudes funny....lets bash Swift, Floyd, Ward(after 2 years off), Santa Cruz, Broner, Cotto and Stevenson for fighting dudes they are SUPPOSED to beat but lets give Nelo, Lil G, and Krusher(for rematching Pascal) a pass FOH

PERSONALLY, I have no problem with Nelo fighting Gabby before going into the deep part of the water with Lil G in September.....if BOTH fighters win in impressive fashion, the fight could become juicier....this is just a appetizer before the main dish in September, that's ALL!!

People keep mentioning a Cotto rematch, which I think would go the same way and not be all that interesting. Not sure what the other possibilities are but Rosado is tough and gives it his all, not a great opponent but not a bad one. Also if Canelo is going to stay at 155 it's better to be against Rosado rather than draining a MW down like the Cotto-Geale fight.
