Boxing was popular in the 80s. Leonard and Hearns could fill up a stadium and make millions fighting each other. Today? Not so much. You'd be lucky to make $1 million gross in a tough competitive fight. And if you lose you will never see that type of money again.
It's not corruption that is causing ducking alone. The bigger issue is the sport has no fans.

The NFL is able to sell its broadcast rights as an annual content package, so even if the Browns vs. Titans game only does 1/100th of the ratings of the Pats - Broncos game, the money is still spread evenly amongst the teams. That model is unlikely to ever happen at a high level in boxing, because boxing is so individualized to the particular fighter, even more so than other individual sports like tennis, golf, etc. Tiger fans still watch the big PGA tournaments, even when Tiger isnt playing.

But those numbers cannot support the "big-ticket" purses and expenses that come with the higher level shows......

Originally posted by PBP. View PostHow much does that have to do with the uncertain time frame? Say you drop 7 figures on a round 7-8 commercial for a big event and the fight ends in 3?
For example, when I would buy regional 30 second spots on ESPN Friday Night Fights to promote my upcoming shows, I was only guaranteed that the spot would run at some point either in hour 1 or hour 2 of the telecast. But that was fine because a 3-county spot only costs like 75 bucks. But if you were a national advertiser, deciding where to park your BIG dollars, do you go for a guaranteed time situation like the NFL, where its going to be a 3 hour game no matter what, or do you gamble that a fight lasts long enough for your spot to run? Because #1 unless the network was guaranteeing spot airing for major advertisers, nobody is going to gamble big dollars that the fight wont be over before their spot runs, and if the network does guarantee that the spot would run during the main event, then they would have to credit back any advertiser whose spot didnt run, which kills the revenue.......
The only revenue that would be considered "safe", would be the ring mat logos and corner cushion logos.

That was easy.
Why do you fanboys have to take everything as a slight?

he's also the most avoided fighter in boxing, which is important. his team hasn't been moving him slowly. they've been trying to fight the champion of the division for years. they just can't get the fights they want at 160.

"Angulo beat Rosado better" - only a casual fan would post something like that and only a casual would agree with it and defend a statement like that.
As for you calling me a fanboy....
You NEVER post your own thoughts, only shit like "yeah, i agree" when replying to posts made by other, more respected and knowledgeable posters.
So I guess that makes you a fanboy.....of BoxingScene posters
You're absolutely pathetic.Last edited by Szef; 12-20-2015, 04:10 PM.
