  • Why has GGG's career been moved so slowly?

He has been pro for 9 going on 10 years and is 33 almost 34

compare that to others and what they achieved in 10 years

Because he is not with one of the major Promoters that has the Pull and the Power within the Boxing World to move things along faster.

If he was with either Haymon, Arum or Oscar things would be moving along faster because those 3 have the connects in America that Loeffler and K2 Don't!

When you can gather momentum knocking out a list of bums, why stop?

His handlers have done a brilliant (con) job with him.

You know why. Don't play the "I'm naive" card.

In boxing you need a powerful promoter with contacts and also you need to sell. Being from Kazahztan doesn't help much. But your boxing ability CAN sooner or later expose you to the top.

Or you can be a Chavez Jr, the opposite case.

You don't honestly believe the garbage you are spouting? GGG is number one and has the pedigree to continue to succeed. He can bang and he can box; good luck finding a way to beat that. Ward and Lara are the only trick customers and I favour him over Lara.

I agree. If he would have got the fights they have been trying to get him for the past 5 years he would be way further along. They simply do not have the power to push.

We are witnessing the same thing with BooBoo to an extent. He also should have gotten the big fights, but when you are a small promoter, it is hard to get the larger promoters to put their cash cows in against you when you are a danger to them.

SI ran a great article (link) on Golovkin, going quite a bit into his history.

In short, he paid his dues in Germany for 3 years. Then his promoter ran into financial issues and ended up screwing him over for 3-4 years by refusing to give him a shot at any decent name. It took Golovkin almost 2 years to litigate and get out of that contract.

After he got out, he signed with K2 and Abel and started fighting on HBO. Because of his skill and experience, he's been head and shoulders above most fighters of his level of popularity. This basically established him as a huge no-no to most big name opponents - he's not well known but is an elite talent. His risk/reward ratio is just too high.

He was chasing Felix Sturm around since 2008, then he chased Martinez in 2012-2014, whose promoter said "just because 100 fans on a message board want a fight doesn't mean I should give it to them". Now it's Cotto and Canelo.

                Number one at what?

                Knocking out no hopers?

People will blame his early promotional issues but in the same breath criticize Ward for being inactive while going through his promotional issues. He and Ward fought in the same Olympics and Ward is younger. The MW division was filled with killers when GGG could've turned pro and fought in America. GGG is 33. Think of the MW division 10 years ago when he was 23.

His current problem is K2. If he were with Arum or Golden Boy he'd already be MW champ. Instead they've taken step aside after step aside in hopes of getting a shot. They were told before Canelo/Cotto that this would be the last time they'll have to step aside. The winner must fight GGG or vacate. And what happened? They stepped aside again. Another issue is K2 doesn't pay well. They want the Lee fight next if he wins but I guarantee they won't pay him more than he would get paid to fight -Jacobs. They aren't getting that fight.

Imo they kept him fighting lower tier fighters so he can get the ko and build up his name and brand. But once it was built he needed a big name opponent and that was ward. Ggg passed and we are were we are. Ward had the respect, name, resume, and skill to send ggg into superstardom and instead they choose a weak opponent for a ppv that bombed and are stuck accepting step aside after step aside. The boy...i mean man is good, has a decent fanbase and is a huge talent but his team dont seem to know how to get him to that next level. Maybe canelo will fight him and we will see what happens then
