jacobs will probably not make $1.5m in purses in the whole of 2016 if he doesn't fight golovkin or alvarez. let's be honest his schedule on PBC is eubank jr/saunders (they will rematch before either of them faces jacobs), blanco and miscellaneous bums. (if andy lee beats saunders, K2 likely snaps him up). it'd be bad business for jacobs to decline $1.5m and a shot at a real title for that

They are all real titles (to those that care). And no IMO GGG would be a fool to not offer a good price to Jacobs.

GGG's resume and actions relative to choosing opponents diminishes him, not any poster that points this out.

Everyone points out that fighters avoided GGG. The only difference is the opinions on his choices after he is avoided.

GGG fans like you and ex Manny slurpers like twosweethooks justify the choices GGG makes and try to deflect to either race or opinions on what might happen to avoid discussing what actually DID happen.

The fact is, GGG's handlers have backed him into a corner with their nonsense and now, he doesn't have a lotta attractive options. They didn't wanna fight Ward. Which in terms of legacy, was currently the biggest fight for Gennady. They claim they won't fight Canelo at a catchweight. Which is probably the best option on the table for GGG. His little "unification" campaign bombed its ass off with Lemieux. So Jacobs is likely a far more attractive option for the Lee-Saunders winner, and visa versa. And seeing how SHO picked up Lee-Saunders, that appears to be the next move anyway. At this point, Gennady can either swallow his pride and fight Canelo at 155. Or, fight a mandatory that only he and his 97K fans care about.

They know alright... they bring $$$ up because they know they're going to take a beating. If they thought they had a good chance, they'd be willing to take far less. Monroe Jr took a shot at winning the sweepstakes by accepting $100k in what was a stay busy fight for GGG. He lost. He could've held out for more, but he knew a win over GGG gives him belts and status that'd be worth far more than any purse he could've negotiated. Lemieux got a pretty good split for the PPV because he brought something to the table other guys haven't. He had something GGG wanted...when other opponents bring those things, they'll see a greater share of the purse.

Furthermore, GGG fights on HBO, a company that has to satisfy a bottom line and turn a profit on boxing. Otherwise the network will dump it as they have other things to put on the air. So, it's kind of funny to hear people bring up purses that RocN or PBC guys are getting compared to the HBO fighters. You think Ward's $2 mil purse to fight Smith in front of 300k on BET made that fight a money maker or was Roc bankrolling the event? Was Jacobs' purse to fight Quillen covered by the revenue generated by the fight, or was it subsidized by the Haymon Hedge Fund? Honestly.

I almost completely disregarded your post when I saw you mentioned "97k" only goobers and stans make reference to PPV numbers, real fight fans care about the best fights, not the best earning fighters.

anyway...your bolded statement makes no sense. except for the likely possibility that Haymon will overpay Jacobs and the winner of Lee/Saunders. there is more exposure and critical success to be gained by beating GGG, than Jacobs. if Lee/Saunders beat Jacobs. very next question will be about GGG. if they beat GGG, the first question will be about Canelo.

What's the nonsense you speak of? Insisting that a fight for the MW championship be held at the division's weight limit? Or not giving Ward a 10+lb weight advantage on fight night?

GGG is in fine position and will do whatever the hell he feels is in his best interest. IF that means dropping a few to get Canelo in the ring then so be it. Speculation at this point is a waste of time as there are deadlines and events in the next couple of weeks that'll lead to an outcome here. We will know soon enough.

A month ago these guys said GGG had no options for good wins in the MW division

A month ago these guys said GGG had to fight a LHW because there were no good wins to be had in the MW division, are now saying that Jacobs has beaten better fighters.

When GGG versus Quillin were brought up, they'd say Kid Chocolate drew with Lee, that he wouldn't be a solid win.

Now Jacobs beat him, suddenly that's a career defining win.

Come on!

At best Jacob beat a fighter who was equal to Murray. In reality, Quillin would lose two half of the top ten MW out there. Really, there isn't a top MW that I'd be surprised if they beat Quillin.

Jacob may of propelled himself into the top 5, maybe not.

But GGG has been beating the best MW fighters for years.

And if Jacobs fights GGG (with his asking price I doubt it), will these guys call it a good win if GGG KO'd him in 6.

No! They'd say he was overrated, like they do with each GGG win.
