Not a good look either since the card was filled with local talent from NY
Barclays Center is a 20k-seat venue; didn't think the SaveMart Center was that small (spent some time at Fresno State. Go Dogs!), but apparently Jose Ramirez was able to sell it out with 13k.

Would be willing to bet that ringside/lower bowl seats for the NY card were likely double/triple what Top Rank priced the ringside seats for Jose Ramirez. $20 may have gotten you into Barclays Center for the fight, but I doubt that that got you anywhere near the ring.

That's actually not a bad idea

Verdejo and Valdez have been televised all over the place including HBO. Ramirez is getting treated like an Eastern Euro fighters, not as bad since he at least gets televised, but his fights only get televised on Solo Boxeo or are not televised. Gvozdyk is way more talented than Verdejo but will never get the push.
Ramirez is a US Olympian, why wouldn't Americans get behind him? He's also Mexican-American (one of the biggest fan bases in boxing) and is bilingual, unlike Verdejo, so that helps tremendously.
I remember a video about Ramirez before the Olympics talking about his life. In that video Ramirez said he graduated as the Valedictorian of his high school. So not only is he an Olympian, but he's a smart kid. I also heard he does a lot for his community, so maybe that's why he gets a lot of support over there.

I could be wrong, but I think Nike already sponsors him. Don't quote me on that because I'm not 100% sure.
It's not like this guy is getting trash sponsors, he has some big sponsors already.

I want you to explain though. Why do you think Verdejo and Valdez are more marketable than Ramirez? I'm curious. You say by simply looking at them, so what does that mean?
The issue isn't that Americans won't get behind him; if he keeps winning, and continues to show his willingness to scrap, people will get behind him.

My point is simply that Jose Ramirez doesn't look like the fighter that Bob Arum has been known to throw his weight behind. Arum through his weight behind Oscar De La Hoya because, to be blunt about it, he could fight and he looked like a guy that would drive female fans gushy between the legs; Verdejo and Valdez have a lot of what led Arum to push Oscar so hard. weird to actually put that into type, tbh.

Jose Ramirez, for all of his ability (saw a fight that he had on Solo Boxeo a few years ago; haven't seen him since), doesn't seem to have what drew Arum to Oscar. He's going to have a harder row of it, but he's got the Central Valley backing him and as long as he keeps winning and being in exciting fights, he'll eventually get some type of a shot t stardom.

Ramiriez is gonna be a real superstar. Dude can speak well has a exciting style and hes a philanthropist he not just a boxer he goes out and rally for concerns that he cares about like the drought in California he is huge in that and that enters him into an entirely different world on fans and eyes on him, he was with the governor at the press conference in his last fight etc etc, I see nothing but stardom for him IF he keeps winning which I think he will, dude can ice verdejo right now with no problems at all. be on the look out for bob arum to shift his priories from verdejo to Ramirez and verdejo will be protected so he can be fed to Ramirez down the road in a big fight.

Many boxing shows give free tickets all the time and rarely draw a crowd. Many of the cards with established fighters not prospects.

They gave a bit quite a few here in Dallas for the Spence fight and although it drew a decent crowd it was about 3k at the most.
They couldn't even get 100 people in Miami for established Cuban fighter Erislandy Lara. Yet you laugh that 13K people showed up to watch a prospect in Ramirez?
You really are a joke of a poster.
                Good post!
I don't know the poster that well to say he's a joke, although he seems to hate Eastern European fighters for no reason, but I do agree with the rest of your post.
People are hating on this guy because a few tickets were given out for free. I doubt all 13k of them were given out for free. Even if they were it's still amazing that 13k went to go watch his fight. Earlier this year he had 10k go and watch him
I think he's just jealous that Ramirez is doing better than his boy Verdejo with less of a push.

The funny thing is that Ramirez has been compared to Oscar since he was an amateur. He reminds me of Oscar in a few ways, they are even build similar. Both are like 5'10". I remember they used to hype Ramirez up in the amateurs and If I'm not mistaken he won more national titles than Oscar and Floyd. The only thing he couldn't do was medal at the Olympics like they did. The only reason I brought the national titles was because that's how they used to hype him up as an amateur. Basically by comparing him to two successful pros and hoping Ramirez could do similar things. Medaling at the Olympics would have helped his case without a doubt.
I think he could make a lot of money with Ramirez, I don't see why Arum would hesitate in pushing him.
Also, if we are talking about looks I wouldn't say Ramirez is bad looking dude. I think he could attract the female audience if that is what Bob wants. And don't worry about it. It's a weird topic in boxing, but I do think looks could help a fighter out in popularity.
Ramirez can fight and has an exciting style as well. I think this will attract a lot of people in the future. I could see a big money fight between him and Verdejo in a few years.
I think Ramirez is very marketable. He just needs the push.

I don't always agree with Top Rank, but they definitely have the best up and comers in boxing right now. They could add even more after the 2016 Olympics. Several of them could become stars. Stars doesn't always mean Mayweather, Pac or de la Hoya type of stardom either.
They just need to give some of their other fighters opportunities to shine.

Yet there are many boxers out there who despite giving away virtually all tickets couldn't bring in a quarter of what this kid has brought, yet I'm the biased one? You're an idiot, and I repeat a total joke of a poster.
oh please cut the crap. verdejo has already done that in PR, not with free tickets like they described here...

& don't call anyone an idiot when you used a comma and the word "and" right after each other.

and no I'm not joke of a poster. Just cuz I don't go around kissin anyone's ass I could give two fucks what you feel honestly cuz you haven't even had a conversation about boxing with me dipshit.

on top of that you were saying about lara couldn't draw 100 people to his fight in miami. Which is total hogwash.
