    great angle.

that's very close to what doc sees. quillin didn't even react when he stopped the fight. i don't think he saw the hands waving in front of him until doc had him in a bear hug.

i don't think he knew where he was outside of maybe understanding that he was in a fight.

i also think this stoppage is going to get a lot of extra scrutiny because doc always looks like he's getting ready to step in to stop a fight prematurely. he gets close and makes sure he's in a spot if he needs to stop it, even if a fighter is not ready to go.

doc is a great, great ref. i don't mind a quick stoppage, frankly. not any more. let them cash their checks and go home. you can die in there.

My first instincts were it was premature, but I've changed my mind after seeing the replay from a different angle.

            The ref did everything right:

            1. Did he take consecutive unreturned punches? Yes.
            2. We're his senses in tact? No.
            3. Did he have his legs under him? No.
            4. Could he properly defend himself from harm? No.

This is a textbook stoppage. Look at his eyes. He wasn't even aware of where he was.

his hands were up and he was on his toes. he looked a bit shell-shocked but not really glazed over to me. moments before he had demonstrated a pretty good recovery ability and will to fight

Bit premature I felt but Quillin can have no complaints - he got caught, rushed and beaten fair and square.

Two things: Quillin did a poor job of holding on. He tried fighting back instead but was so fcked up he could hardly punch.

Second, technically the ref should have called a knocked down since the ropes held him up. After the count, Quillin might have recovered just enough to allow the fight to continue. I know its potentially dangerous but fighters have been as hurt as him before and finished the fight.

Look at Mosley-Forrest 1, I don't think Mosley even knew where he was

Quillin's eyes were wide open, with an intense stare and looking directly in front of him at Jacobs. Peter was dazed but he had his hands up, in the stance and was looking directly forward. He should have been given the benefit of the doubt and been allowed to demonstrate that he was OK or able to defend himself. Harvey Doc panicked because of Jacobs' intensity, the quickness of what was playing out and Quillin staggering. Boxing pundits should be calling it what it is: a premature and bad stoppage. Harvey Doc is the new Richard Steele

Very good stoppage. I don't think Quillin could likely meaningfully participate in the fight any longer, especially with a game opponent charging at him with over half the round to go. He was most likely, but not definitely, going to get stretched. He was definitely already very hurt.
