U dont stop a undefeated fighter in a championship fight that early. Yes he staggered but he still had his senses about him.

it was premature. we've seen fighters recover from being hurt like that an uncountable number of times. who knows what would have happened if the fight had gone on, it could have turned into a classic

It was bad. The ref can call off the fight at any time from bad punches but the punches had already landed, Quillin was already straightening up and starting to recover when the ref turned around and waved it. Whenever a ref hesitates and looks unsure of his own call like that it's gonna be questioned.

Quillin's fault for taking punches defenseless. No Knee, no hold, no mouthpiece spitting, no fake triping.

At first I thought it was a little soon and maybe a panic from the ref...But after seeing that replay from the other angle where you can see in his eyes? He looked pretty badly hurt.

We have seen people come back from worse, and he didn't take a count etc...But if it carried on he would have likely been really hurt, so it is hard to say.

The stoppage was okay. People don't realise the difference being aware makes to getting punches. Quillin was out of it ans qouls have taken something nasty had the ref not called it off.

i wouldn't have stopped it, but that probably would have only led to a few unnecessary punches.

but in hindsight, specifically where quillin's reaction was concerned, it looked like a good stoppage. he did not look like he wanted to continue.

these are the ethical considerations for a referee. how much of a beating is too much of a beating to give a guy the benefit of the doubt and let him fight? that's a tough question. quillin was taking a beating at the time of a stoppage.

that first right hand clearly set the tone for the rest of the round. he never had his legs back. i think it was a left hook somewhere in the flurries that put him back on ***** street.

jacobs has been in some exciting fights at this point. pirog, mora, and now this. my hat goes off to him. that guy couldn't even walk a few years ago. now he's a pro athlete again. hats off.

Early 1st round stoppages like that bug me in a way. Cold stoppages bother me because we could have missed out on a great fight. If Peter would have just taken a knee, he could have weathered the early storm.

they ought to bring cotto in to give a seminar on kneeling before your conqueror.
taking a knee is a lost art
