At 25 years old, is Canelo Alvarez already a borderline future Hall of Famer?

Very true, Canelo without a doubt has a chance to make a name for himself and possibly one day make the HOF. If his career were to end tomorrow he does not belong In the HOF and It Isn't borderline.

How Is It Leonards fault that Canelo had no amateur background and accomplished far more than Canelo could ever dream of by the age of 25?

Please stop it. His first 39 fights were against bums. # 40 was a old Mosley and # 41 omg was a 140 lbs Josesito lopez (total bull****) So really lets count the fights since Trout #42 he is 5-1. He still very far from a hall of famer. VERY FAR!

No we're not. But let's not act like anyone belives canelo will ever be that level of fighter. It's more of a comment on the state of boxing. Canelo could take a step toward greatness in fighting ggg, but instead will probably avoid him. Minimal risk with maximum reward is the name of the game these days, and it's also the reason lots of guys now won't attain that level of past greats.

            Possible.

But I think he'll end up more like Fernando Vargas.

Especially if the Golovkin fight does happen.

Indeed boxing is in a sad state when that's who we praise nowadays. A 33 year old who has like 1/3rd of the resume of a 25 year old. But that's who we praise today. W rather praise the guy who is beating no hopers by KO in 3-4 rounds, rather than priase the guy taking on elite fighters and winning close decisions. Because beating up C fighters is so much better than close fights with elites.
              Good post.

Definetly not Leonards fault that 'Nelo had not amateur background, but to compare SRL to Canelo at 25 is straight up azz, not to mention that it has nothing to do with the topic. The question is if he's a BORDERLINE HOF, which considering some of the names in the HOF (ahem, Stallone) I think he is.

I understand the definition of borderline momo. What I'm saying is I don't really understand it in "borderline HOF" cuz its not like if you beat x guys in the top ten or x former or current champions you're in. Its more subjective than that.

Plus we got no clue wtf Canelo's career trajectory holds. He could be 2 fights from the HOF cuz hes gonna move up to 168 & beat Ward & than move up to HW & beat todays winner & if he could do that after the things he already did I think I'd throw him in the HOF. Then again he could spend the next decade beating up guys like Rubio & below @ 155. So to me HOF is a you're in or you're out thing cuz there is no borderline cuz we got no idea what people could be planning in the future & in boxing you can sharply enhance or decline the caliber of opposition you fight far too much to make big assumptions.

He may not be a hof'er just yet, but I think if he keeps going the way he is then yes. I wasn't sold on the guy a few years ago, the guy has the star power and could take easier fights than he has but chooses to take tough fights. Lara was the guy no one wanted to fight, some people on here said he could beat mayweather etc. Fight after fight he's taking on really good opposition. I like that, boxing needs more fighters like him.
