  • Imagine if Canelo unified the entire middleweight division just 1lb north of the light middleweight division. Stuff of legends.

Now someone with skills and power, wants to fight GGG at a weight that GGG himself said he would be willing to come down to. All hell breaks loose.

What would happen if Canelo drops the belt and calls out GGG at 155? What would be the excuse then?

"I'll come down to 154 for any big ppv fight"- Golovkin
Is that quote even real. I recall him saying I'd only come down to 154 for Floyd, not a guy who Rehydrates to what looked like over 175 this last fight.

Canelo slightly shorter, but comes in heavier.

Canelo had no problem fighting little ass Cotto, but damn it if GGG isn't too big.

That man looks like a Vigina trying to make his own weight division. Pathetic!

The best argument is the WBC will stick to its word. This is an organization that is pro Mexican and tends to let the big earners get away with anything.

I might be wrong like I was when I said Manny should take $40 mil/no ppv offer. If I am proven wrong I will admit it as always.

I just do not see where GGG can avoid having terms dictated to him for this fight.
You weren't wrong about Manny. Manny just plaued poker and won. Floyd simply ran outta sellable options. That's not the case here. GGG doesn't have a leg to stand on. If anything, he's more in Floyd's shoes than Manny's. Floyd had the huge guarantee from SHO. So I'm pretty sure there was pressure on him to do the Manny fight because SHO basically lost money on all but two of those six fights. Just so happens those two were monsters. GGG, like Floyd, has the HBO guarantee. He didn't wanna fight Ward. He's not gonna budge in negotiations against what's clearly a bigger star. And like Ward recently stated, GGG is a lil spoiled. At some point, HBO is likely to step in. I can't see them continuing to pay GGG the way they pay him to fight the Lee-Saunders winner, and then a string of pointless mandatories against cab drivers. GGG's **** or get off the pot moment is coming. Canelo can't be discredited. He bent over for Floyd. He fought ill advised fights against Lara and Trout. The guy is 8-9yrs younger than GGG and his resume dwarfs Gennady's. If anybody needs to man up, it sure as hell isn't the guy that's 25 and his resume already trumps a guy's approaching his mid-30s.

Good point. This is also the trade off Canelo is making.

If he beat GGG@ 160 and then unified all @ 160, he would get massive cred from hardcore fans, even those that do not respect him. By making it @ 155, he is choosing to sacrifice this in order to have a better chance of winning.

I think the GGG fans are missing this. 155 may help Canelo win, but the boxing community will hold it against him to a degree.

            • "We'll fight anyone at 155 lbs." What? That's not a damn division. I have no problem with catchweights, but not when you're campaigning in the same weight class. Now if GGG agrees to it, then fine, there should be no excuses, but It doesn't change the fact that it's garbage. And I like Canelo, but come on. He's acting like he's too small for MW, which he isn't. This is strictly to get an advantage, which is fine I guess. I just don't like it.

                  • I keep seeing ****** fux posting about how Canelo drains himself down to 155, blah, blah, blah. If that's the case. Isn't that advantage GGG? Nelo drains himself to make 55. GGG can make 54 easily. If I'm Team GGG, I sign that contract without even reading the terms.

Surprised Floyd boys aren't in an uproar about this as the supposed vanguards of fair game. Under no circumstances should Canelo be allowed to win another middleweight belt at a catchweight. Golovkin should give him the middle finger and the fans should tell him to grow a set, this is deplorable.
